Using boxed wine

Just picked up a box of wine and was considering the idea of using boxed wine for the reception. We have been looking for venues that let us bring our own booze and planned to hire a bartender to serve it. My only concern is how do I have them served boxed wine without it seeming super tacky?

Re: Using boxed wine

  • The only thing I can think of is buy something else to decant the wine into...but really with what you'd spend on something like that it might be best to just spring for some yellowtail or little penguin.
  • I went to a wedding with boxed wine.  No one seemed to have an issue with it.  They were serving that and beer at the bar.  Then each table had a bottle of white, bottle of red, and a bottle of champagne on it.  We traded another table our red for their white.

  • We had boxed wine at our wedding. The country club just decanted it into glass decanters.

  • I really doubt anyone will say anything about boxed wine. If you have a Trader Joe's near you check out two buck chuck. It is a bottled wine by Charlie Shaw vinyard (yes the same oe as the boxed wine) in a bottle and you guessed it only $2.

  • you might want to look into wine kits too, ours is going to be $340 for 60 bottles of wine! (30 white and 30 red)
  • They actually make some very good boxed wine these days. It could definitely be more cost effective and not sacrifice good wine. Like PPs have said, just have the venue decant it into glass decanters.
