need help with food wording for one of my choices on invites

so i am ordering my invites for my june wedding i know kinda late but this company i am going through will have them to me in 2 weeks.

anyways i am doing send and seal because its cost effective.
on the reception card i have 3 extra lines but i have 4 food choices,  my food choices are chicken francaise, twin stuffed lobster tails, prime rib and my vegetarian option is eggplant parm.

right now i am doing a preview of the invites and will be ordering them tomorrow, my issues are this i have room for all the menu options except the vegetarian so this is how it looks now
_____ chicken francaise

_____  twin stuffed lobster tails
_____  prime rib _____eggplant parm

would that be ok like that or should i find something with more room so the veg option has its own line

also eggplant parm is a really popular dish but its our veg option that he will make for anyone who does not eat meat. i only have a few people invited like 4 that dont eat meat but i am worried more meat people will chose that over the meat.  could i just put vegeterian option on the response card or should i put what the item is?

Re: need help with food wording for one of my choices on invites

  • Would it be possible to set it up so there are 2 per line, so it looks more balanced? I would say put veg option instead of naming it if you are worried others will order it.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Would two per line make it too cramped?  Or could you find a way to do a fourth line?
I, personally, would prefer to know what I was having/asking for as "vegetarian option" doesn't tell me anything.

  • Not too late! I'm getting married in mid June, and I'm just finalizing my invites as well. Hoping to order this week, so don't worry about that. They shouldn't be sent out until April anyway, so you have time. I would try to make it like Addie said, and put 2 choices per line.

Also, will you be charged extra for the veggie option if too many people order it? I know at the venues I was looking at you could have 2 main options + a vegetarian as long as the vegetarian numbers were less than 10%. That would be the only reason to put just vegetarian and not name it.

  • I don't see what the problem is with non-vegetarians ordering the vegetarian option.  There might be things about the other dishes they can't eat or they just like the vegetarian option better.

I would find a way to include a fourth line and say it is eggplant parmesan.  There might be a reason your vegetarian friends can't eat that and it would be nice for them to know so they can contact you about options (like leaving the cheese off).

  • thanks for the help after posting this i forgot that i have out of town guest so i would need to include hotel inserts and registry inserts and those wont work with those seal and sends.

would it be tacky if i did the seal in send but i mailed them in a nice envelope so i could include the other inserts
  • I agree that 2 per line would look better.  I also don't see the problem with meat-eaters ordering a vegetarian meal?  We had 4 people order the vegetarian entree at our wedding, 3 of which I know for sure eat meat.  I wanted my guests to eat the meal that sounded the most delicious to them.

You do not need to include these things.  In fact you absolutely should not include registry inserts.  It is considered very rude to put registry information in a wedding invitation because it implies you are expecting people to give you gifts.  If someone wants to know where you are registered they will ask you, your FI, your parents, or Google.  As for the hotel inserts you don't have to have them.  Though if you reserved a block of rooms or have another discount arrangement with a hotel it would be nice to include that.  Do you have a wedding website?  Maybe you could include a line in the invites about visiting the wedding website for hotel information?

  • i do have a block of rooms reserved so i wanted to def include that in the invite as not everyone we are inviting out of state has access to the internet and our website.

with the traditional invites its going to cost me almost 300.00 if i went with the most inexpensive one you have to add the response card reception card and the envelopes it adds up fast. with the send and seals i am spending almost 130-140 and my max budget to order invites is 200 because i would also have to get double the amount of stamps.

we are inviting 160 guests so we need at least 80 invites
  • I'd go like this:
_____  chicken francaise      _____  twin stuffed lobster tails
_____  prime rib                    _____  eggplant parmesan

By completing the parm...parmesan it lengthens it so it doesn't look weird under the lobster tails.

And why is your guy saying the eggplant option is only for vegetarian eaters? If it really is a big deal, I would say "vegetarian option" instead, as I'm one of those people who will go vegetarian for some dinners, but wouldn't blindly select it when I see there are 3 other choices that I know what they are...
  • Also curious why you would hope people don't choose the eggplant... I'm hoping people go for my veggie pasta, it costs me the least money! Haha :)

well when we picked our menu we picked our meat chicken and fish then i asked him about veg options for those non meat eaters and he said we can make some eggplant parm for those that need it.

i did order my invites i went on americanwedding.com got regular traditional invites and put 2 meal options on each line for each choice but the venue requires that you know exactly what person is eating what so if i have a chicken and a fish on one card how will i know who wants who? do they initial it or check it?

also should i have put please select a meal choice beacuse i did not put that on the invite i just put attending not attending

and then the meal choices Twin stuffed lobster tails ____prime rib
____ chicken francaise ____ eggplant parmesan

That still doesn't explain why you don't want non-vegetarians ordering it. Will you be charged extra for it?  Your caterer has no way of knowing who "needs" it and who prefers it.  People could chose it for health reasons other than being a vegetarian.

People should know to select their meal choice.  You may end up calling some people to find specifically who ordered what.

My venue said the same thing!!  I guess it has to do with the complications of preparing so many meals, they prefer to mostly just have 2-3 different entrees, and only have to cook a limited amount of the extra vegetarian meals.  We were only allowed to give our guests a choice of two meal options.  We chose one chicken and one fish.  I told them I know I have some guests who are vegetarian, and he said that's fine they will cook them up some vegetarian meals no problem.  I asked if I should put the vegetarian option on the RSPV card as a third option and he said NO!  He said "trust me, they will write or tell you they want a vegetarian option, and people will also tell you they want gluten-free, have food allergies, etc.  Just let us know about all those meals and how many when you give your final count."  That seems so crazy to me, to expect people to just tell me they want a vegetarian option without me offering it.  I think I would feel awkward having to make special requests to the bride and groom, and I don't want to put my quests in that situation.  But, my venue has been doing this so long, I guess they know what they're talking about...
  • i ended up putting it on there and i don't expect many to order if but if they do oh well i will just tell him we have that many vegetarians at our wedding

Hehe... nothing but love for my veggie friends but it's totally true. Same with gluten/dairy/anything else allergies/intolerance. They seem to looooove to talk about it! Plus they're probably quite used to asking for exceptions; they won't be shy about it. I AM listing my veggie option on my RSVP card, but we only have 3 total options - it's not an "exception" to the options, and I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few non-veg guests ordered it.

I think as long as you're not being charged the same price for eggplant as you are for lobster, you should be fine putting it on there - that decision isn't up to the caterer, and you'll be letting him know ahead of time how much eggplant he'll need to prepare for. If it's one set price and you don't want to promote the eggplant because it's overpriced relative to the other things, you can feel safe expecting your guests to tell you if they don't eat meat.
