Closing! NWR

In slightly over 24 hours, FI and I will be homeowners! We go and sign all of the closing paperwork and had over a check for an ungodly amount of money tomorrow at noon and then the house wil be ours! I thought we were crazy for trying to buy a house and get married in the same year but we could not have asked for a smoother home buying process. Crossing my fingers that we can make it through the next 7 months of living there without any catastrophes so we can get this wedding planned and paid for and finally relax!

What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Woohoo!!!

We're putting my house on the market in 6 weeks and buying a new house together.  I'm excited to start the house hunting!

  • Thanks guys! We'e so excited for this next step. We wandered around the entire Home Depot store yesterday looking at all of the things we want to buy.

@AprilH81 - how exciting! House hunting was my favorite part of the process (obviously, it's the easiest part!), I just wish I could've done it during the spring and not winter time in Western NY!

  • Fantastic! Many congrats, homeowner :)

  • @ckel24 Yes, house hunting is more exciting than trying to sell.  Living in a "show ready" house is stressful and gets old fast and H has never been through it.  He isn't the neatest person (not a slob, just not neat) and stressing to him that we have to make the bed, coffee cups in the dishwasher, clothes picked up, etc. EVERY DAY when we leave for work is going to take some time.  At least we don't have kids (yet) so we don't have to worry about their toys too!

I've been looking at homes online and dreaming...  The market is pretty hot where we are since the horrible winter weather has kept homes off the market.  We are hoping that will help us sell fast...

  • Congrats!! That's an awesome feat! Enjoy getting to make everything yours!!

  • Congratulations!
  • Ohhhh love the home depot wondering after putting an offer in on a house! I did it when I bought my house, and FI and I do it any time we have some extra money or our dreaming big on our house!

We have grand plans for adding a walk in closet and expanding our master bathroom to have an entrance from our room along with an awesome steam shower and bathtub we can both fit in. Luckily we have the rest of our life to get this far. :-)

I was like a little kid at Christmas wandering around that store! I came home with a ton of paint samples for our kitchen and ideas on lighting fixtures and bathroom updates. We have an account that we each put money into every paycheck specifically for the house (major projects) and so far we have a good chunk of change in there. We get to go buy a new door this week and I'm so excited. Never thought I'd be excited over picking out a door to a basement lol.
  • Congrats!!!!!
  • You may think this is silly but I totally recommend it....the day we closed on the house we brought food, clothes, toilet paper, and an air mattress and spent the night. Since most people don't get their furniture moved in for at least a day or 2. It was really romantic, we didn't exactly sleep great on the air mattress but it's a great memory that I'll always remember about that house. Each July 28th we celebrate our "housiversary". I'm sentimental like that hahah Congrats!!

And yes it's been 3 years and I still can't get enough Home Depot trips. I love looking at everything pretty...too bad I can't afford any of it lol

FI actually has already asked if we could do that :) If we don't do it tomorrow night, then we're definitely spending the weekend there. We have a guest room and we're moving an extra bed we have down there for the spare bedroom and we'll sleep on that.

We really can't afford to do anything big with the house now but the second that wedding is over, I'm dumping everything I've been saving into the house account so we can do some of the bigger projects we were dreaming about yesterday :)

  • Congrats! It sounds like we're living parallel lives...we just closed on our first house on Feb 6th and are getting married 9/26! Happy packing/moving AND planning!!
  • Congrats! Buying my house was one of the best experiences. Highly emotional and stressful but a great a feeling.

@aprilH81 the market is really good for sellers here. FI' s mom is our agent and jokingly suggested we sell since the value of our house shot up since we bought it two years ago. If I weren't so lazy I might consider it.
  • Excellent news! DH and I hope to do the same within the next year.
