NWR: Slightly Ashamed

So my fiance and I got cable (basic package) the other day (yes I know I posted about it). Anyway, I was scrolling through the guide to find something to watch and I was excited when I realized I got the channel that Hoarders is on....

I am slightly ashamed. Haha

Re: NWR: Slightly Ashamed

  • Lolol.

ABCfamily shows on our guide but every time I go to watch it it was "channel unavailable". But it let's me watch it on the TimeWarner app on the Roku. So weird.
  • I use to be so hooked on watching Hoarders and Intervention. I am a HUGE TV junkie but I had to cut back recently when I went back to work. I'm a 28 year old woman trapped in a HS teen body watching all these teenager shows. LOL.
  • I don't get the appeal of Hoarders. After a couple episodes, it's kind of like Springer. Same show over and over again.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I'm an absolute junk t.v. addict and Hoarders is one of my favorites.  No shame.
Me too!! In my case it is with: "love it or leave it". I don't know what it is about the staged snarky banter between Hilary and David, but it hypnotizes me for hours on end.

I have never seen Hoarders but I am sure it has the same magnetic force as all of the others that pulls me to the couch with some popcorn and some wine and doesn't release me for hours and hours on end...

  • These days, I'm into Property Brothers, Property Virgins, and Love It or List It. But that's because FI and I are discussing buying a house post wedding and stuff, and it gives us good ideas on improvements, costs, etc.

Though we did just find a house that would be within our budget, and basically meets every requirement, including both of us liking it!!

Glad I am not the only one. :)

I haven't watched Intervention but you have peaked my curiosity!
  • Oh God, Hoarders is like that car wreck you can't look away from...once they start counting how many cat corpses you are too grossed out to NOT watch it and see the final count.

  • I'll watch Hoarders when I need to clean the house. I watch it and think "Christ, my house looks like that" and start cleaning.

Seriously, my house isn't that bad though! I guess it's just motivation or something.

It's always there if you need an ego boost. There are two shows about hoarding. I'm not sure which one I watched, whichever is on Lifetime. A woman had a ton of cats... And she kept the dead bodies when they died. When she grabbed a dead kitten from the freezer and started crying and rubbing it on her face, I lost it. A guy friend and I literally started screaming at the tv.
  • It's an interesting thing to watch but it's also sad at the same time. You see the life an addict and what the family has to struggle to get them to get help. I was hooked on it for many seasons.

I always pretend that they're secret lovers and I don't want to be corrected if they're not.  But I always want David to win, not sure why.
Watching now! I took note that David IS wearing a wedding band and Hilary is not, the mystery continues....

  • Hoarders makes me want to clean something even if it isn't dirty.  I have sympathy with those that are afflicted and while I understand it is a mental disorder I can't help but think "How do you let it get THIS bad?"

Love it or List is a a guilty pleasure but I feel bad for Hillary.  She is usually the bearer of bad news and the homeowners rarely take it well.  They expect her to remodel an entire house on $10,000 and are shocked and angry when they run into an unexpected problem that eats into that budget. (obviously that is an exaggeration of the budget, but still...)

OMG I know. There was an episode like that on last night and I wanted to look away and go back to Facebook or something but I just couldnt. I think I seriously sat there with my mouth open until the end lol

That's the episode I watched the other night. It was bad!

Yes you make a good point.
  • Now that Downton Abbey is finished for the season, I'm watching (blush) Vikings - no, not the team.  Lots of sweaty muscle men, and the ladies don't have huge boobies.  Ooo!  Very guilty pleasure.

This makes me slightly sad that I'm a bookworm who doesn't have cable television. This show sounds pretty awesome.

Heading back to my books now..

@CMGragain I imagine I would LOVE the History Channel. I do get PBS which is wonderful. I just don't watch enough television to validate the expense.

Actually, you can get Season One on disk, now.  You probably have more refined tastes than I do, though.  I enjoy reading junk novels occasionally, too.  I just have to read Janet Evanovitch trash.

@CMGragain "Junk" tv and books certainly have a place in my life. I am a bit of a book snob, admittedly, but I certainly appreciate some non literary masterpieces and would whole-heartedly encourage them for certain purposes. I also watch some very trash television (The Bachelor) so I'm certainly not holier than thou. Hence, my sadness over missing out on Hoarders. :)

I'll always, always choose an amazing book first, though. They're like gold to me.
  • How about recommending some for an older lady?  (No vampire plots, please!)

@CMGragain: My all time favorite books are (in no particular order with the exception of the first which I could read over and over forever and never get sick of it): The Poisonwood Bible - Barbara Kingsolver, The Things They Carried - Tim O'Brien, Island Beneath the Sea - Isabel Allende, A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseini, As for a series, I really enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory. There are 6 books in the series and it's very easy to get sucked in to reading them all if you have any interest in the Tudor court of Henry VIII. ----------- ETA: Paragraphs keep failing to work for me. My apologies.

Yes, I've read the Cousin's War series by Gregory.  The White Queen, The Red Queen, and The Kingmaker's Daughters were combined into the mini-series, The White Queen.  It followed the books rather closely, though I have some issues about Gregory's theories about the princes in the tower.  You can get that on disk, too.  I sent the disks to my daughter two weeks ago.  She's getting house-bound crazy with the baby and the weather back east.
Going to bed.  Thank you for the suggestions.

PS.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2372220/?ref_=nv_sr_1  It was worth it to see Max Iron's behind!  (Jeremy Irons' son)

Oh! A Thousand Splendid Suns is a great one (as is the Kite Runner. Didn't love his new one as much, though). And I was surprised how much I enjoyed The Other Boleyn Girl - scandalously entertaining!

Vikings is amazing! :) I love that show, though I don't really consider it my guilty pleasure. It is better than Hart of Dixie, which is my true guilty pleasure show!
