Opinions on Wedding Colors

My wedding isn't until June of next year and I may change my mind a few times because it's so early but I'm trying to get an idea of what colors I should use. I'm calling my theme "vintage romance". I'm thinking soft colors like mint green & blush and lace embellishments. Our reception will start at about 6pm. Is it weird to have really light colors like this for an evening wedding? Does it matter? Anyone have any other good color combo suggestions?

  • What does your FI think?

  • I thought that the prettiest gown at the Academy Awards was worn by Camilla Alves in that gorgeous pale pink creation!  All that yucky black worn by famous actresses just looked awful compared to her.  Pale and pastel colors are perfect for spring.  Green can be a difficult color for pale women to wear, though.

  • FI doesn't really care much about the colors.

I do love the pale colors just didn't know if it would seem off for night time.

The time of day and colors shouldn't matter.  The colors should "match" the season but even that has a big range of flexibility.

Evening weddings tend to be more formal so I would match the formality of the dresses and decor to the formality of the wedding itself.

  • I think pale colors are fine for an evening wedding.
  • thank you for your input!

  • I think those colors are fine for evening and time of year, but would just be careful about skin tones. I would personally look like a corpse in a blush or pale green dress. But you could always do a deeper neutral (beige, grey, mauve) for the bridesmaid dresses and use lighter tones in the flowers and linens and still keep that "look." The type of fabric and style of dress will help make anything more "evening" too - full-length shiny satin looks more formal than short crochet lace or jersey, etc.

  • I like the color choices! I think it largely depends on how you use the colors, and Lolo makes a good point about considering skin tones. My only suggestion would be coordinate with your venue selection, some venues may not pull those off as well, and figure out a contrasting darker color to use, from a color theory point you do should have one to pull it all together.
  • I'm getting married next June and plan to use the same colors for my evening wedding.
