Intimate ceremony, dinner and dancing a nightclub?

My fiancé and I have both been married before and have teenage children. We're over the poufy wedding drama but would love to have a great party! Im thinking a smaller guest list of about 40 people. We can have an intimate ceremony at our church, followed by an elegant dinner at a restaurant.  Then for those who are up to it, get a VIP section at the best club in town.  We live in a major city and love a good party.

 

Does this sound doable? Of course, everyone wont come to the club but for those that do, we can have a great party with less expense of a full blown reception.  Besides, its hard to have a good party reception with so few people.

    Yes. We will be paying for everything. It seems like a good idea but I was a little leary because Ive never seen it done this way before.  I just want to be sure Im not overlooking something major. We figured since we're not doing the bridal party nor none of the usual reception traditions like cake cutting or first dances, this would be a good alternative. 

    We will cut a small cake at the dinner.  We just want everything to be intimate but elegant. Here is the timeline I'm considering.

    Ceremony: 7pm

    (posed photos with skyline backdrop)

    Dinner: 830pm

    Dancing : 1030 - until

    There will only be a few out of town guests ( about 4). Mostly guests can change at home if they plan to party all night. I appreciate any suggestions to make this idea go smoothly.

    If you get a VIP corner at a club, will you be paying for drinks? Cuz if it is part of the "event", then you are required to pay....which could get costly

    also, just a thought, if a club is opened until 4am or so are you required then to stay that entire and host the party til then if your guests wanna stay? Just something to think about.

    Also, how old is your group? I say that because I would hate to have to go a nightclub personally. I am too old for that kinda thing. I would do dinner, but probably decline the rest

    Yes, drinks will be included in the VIP section. No one is required to stay until the closing of the club, not even us :-) Of course, if someone WANTS to party until sunrise, then that is their choice. The group will range from mid 30s to mid 40s. The club is really nice and upscale with a beautiful lounge area, not the smoky, seedy nightclubs of my 20s.

    Based on the information I have so far, I'd expect only 10-15 to come to the "afterparty". Of course, our teenagers wont be there, nor will our parents, and those with young kids at home. But those few from out of town and people who want a date night away from home may appreciate the opportunity to dance.

    We're doing something similar in Las Vegas, also older with 21+ age kids,  we only have 20-30 guests, not enough for a formal reception.  We're also thinking an after party at a club could work.
