Too many cake flavors and filling choices to decide on

The fact that I LOVE majority of them makes everything too difficult. What are some of your choices you had for your cake?

I have my cake tasting tomorrow! I want rum cake. Can they do that? Haha.

  • @Sugargirl1019 I think they can do anything. Rum cake would be really amazing for your wedding. I love Bananas and My FI said to give us options with that and 3 bakers we looked have given us a variety of Banana type wedding cakes.

  • Ohh I love banana nut cake... Screw allergies..

  • Are you doing fondant or buttercream?

  • I prefer whipped icing. I told them to surprise me for ideas

  • I baked our wedding cake, so we could pretty much do anything. Fortunately, I came up with an idea early on and we stuck with it (blackberry lime). It helped that my DH doesn't really like chocolate. :(
  • Have fun!!  We did buttercream.... bottom tier will be red velvet, middle and top tiers will be "strawberry banana ritz" - alternating layers of strawberry mousse with fresh cut strawberries and banana mousse.  Sooooo good!
  • @Jamone99 That sounds delicious. I have a random maybe corny question. Is there any wedding cake etiquette to know about?

  • Wedding cake etiquette.... I honestly haven't heard that one before. I don't know, but I'm curious if someone responds otherwise!

Besides don't do nuts in the cake if you know about someone's allergies.. ? I don't know! I think I will alternate layers. Rum cake and something else. Buttercream for me, I hate fondant. I peeled it off the last cake I ate.

  • I know I can't please everyone with the flavor, I just do not want someone to complain about my flavors etc.

  • We had soooo many options for our tasting!

    The ones I remember are...

    Devil's food/chocolate ganache
    Vanilla/vanilla
    Vanilla/fresh strawberries and champagne
    Lemon/vanilla (I think)
    Orange/dark chocolate ganache
    Red velvet/cream cheese
    Banana/chocolate
Apple spice/sweetened goat cheese (similar to cream cheese, but better!)

We ended up picking the apple spice/goat cheese. FI is usually a vanilla/vanilla guy, but this one won him over! It was like a slightly sweeter spice cake, and the icing was to die for!

  • We decided on apple and cinnamon with swiss buttercream, black forest cake layered with cherries and swiss buttercream, and tiramisu cake topped with kahlua buttercream and dark chocolate shavings.

I was certain before tasting that pumpkin cake or carrot cake was going to be an option, but the apple and cinnamon was so good. I think it will be a great crowd pleaser since black forest and tiramisu are a bit out there.

And they also both have liquor. Good to have a non-alcoholic cake.

We didn't try any of the fancy fillings or anything. We want a traditional white cake with cream cheese frosting.
  • We did cupcakes and had lemon, strawberry and amaretto almond. The amaretto was the favorite.

  • Our cake was Godiva chocolate.

  • We're having every tier a different flavor: german chocolate, strawberry, orange (tastes like dreamsicle) and spice cake all with buttercream icing. Yum!!

  • All those sound so yummy.

  • We didn't have choices for the cake, because we know we want hummingbird cake. I'm playing around with different frosting options, but we'll probably go for a brown-butter buttercream, because I have a feeling that the other options are going to be a pain in the butt to make.

  • The answer is always red velvet.
  • I'm making our wedding cupcakes. We are having chocolate with peanut butter frosting, caramel cupcake with chocolate buttercream and sea salt, and vanilla with raspberry buttercream.

    Anniversary
  • Red velvet and vanilla frosting.

  • We had 3 favors - red velvet/cream cheese , vanilla/ coconut and chocolate/hazelnut.
