Reception Bar

I was at a wedding this summer that had an open bar, but every drink you ordered the bartender asked for your id which became annoying after the 2nd time. Would it be strange to have them check the ids once and give wrist bands to of age patrons?

Re: Reception Bar

  • Yes.  Weddings are not clubs.  Carding guests once is one thing, but no wrist bands should be issued.
  • Lol I've never seen someone ID anyone who appeared to be over the age of 30 at a wedding.  But no, wrist bands are not okay.  Ask your venue what their policy is.

That's definitely weird! I've never been to a wedding where they asked for ID. I doubt this is the norm, but you can always ask about your venues policies on it. At our wedding, we just let them know how many underage guests were attending, (which was like 5, & all but maybe one, obviously underage). I would just find it weird to be asked for ID at a wedding!

  • I'd rather be carded every time (good for that bartender for being responsible) than wear a wrist band at a wedding or really anywhere.

  • Usually at locations that provide alcohol, I only get carded by the bartender once and then after that he or she just gets me my drinks without any problems.  Anyways, wrist bands are kind of tacky for a wedding and something that I could see being used at fairs or concerts or something.

  • I'd rather be carded than feel like I'm at an amusement park.

That said, I'd see if you can ask your venue about their standard practice. It seems a bit excessive to card every time.
