My mom is so weird

I have a photo album I was given and it includes a few pictures from my parents high school prom, a few from their wedding, a bunch of me & siblings as babies. I decided for the wedding to frame pictures of my parents wedding and FIL's wedding since they are all still married 35 years later. So I look through my album and all the pics of my parents suck- they are 70's camera, small, blurry, far away, not even looking at the camera. These are the only pics I've ever seen of my parents wedding. So I call her up and ask do you have any better pictures I can use? She says "Of course, I have an album of nice 8 x 10's". I was like WHAAATT?! Why have I NEVER seen these photos and why were none of them ever hung in our house or anything?! lol I'm excited to see these pictures.

Re: My mom is so weird

  • My parents are like this too. This June will be their 44th wedding anniversary. My entire life, they're never displayed any of their wedding pictures. They all sit in a box.
  • Yea, my parents never had pictures of their wedding hung anywhere. They only ordered a handful of prints for my dad's family. All the rest are the proofs, and they kept those albums up in the attic. Not sure what the deal with that was, but whatever. Pictures of us kids on the walls were so much cuter! lol

  • I think they have 1 or 2 out. The rest are in an album under the bed. My parents aren't much for decorating/sentimentality though anyway. They've been married 44 years I think?

  • Well at least mine are not the only ones!

When my brother got re-married I had to frame and mail them a new family photo because they had never taken down the one with brother's ex-wife in it. I was like that's awkward- here Merry Christmas! lol

  • My parents were like that. They only had an album with 4x6 pictures in it. When my dad died my mom had a larger copy of her favorite photo made and it has been on display ever since. I think it helped her cope.
  • My parents have had one framed wedding picture hung in their bedroom for as long as I can remember. Other than that I think they have an album somewhere.

I'm not a big picture person, so spending a lot on photography for the wedding seemed like a waste. I'll frame one photo and put it somewhere in the house. The rest will gather dust!
  •  70's bride, here. I have a wedding album of professional 8 X 10s in my closet. I've probably taken the album out 6 times in 35 years. I never framed or displayed any of the pictures because it seemed vain and show offy to display photos of myself, in my home. My daughter asked for our wedding pictures to scan for her wedding slide show. I told her she could keep the album. She brought it back to me because she couldn't believe I really meant it. Now, it's back in the closet : ) That's why I tell b2b not to plan their weddings around their photos.

Seriously, do you think I want a daily reminder of my seventies style hair and platform wedding shoes? My husband's brown tux and Beatle's style hair. No thank you.

  • @mairepoppy hahahahah that's hilarious! My dad also had a brown tux and shaggy hair and my mom had full sleves on her dress and Farrah Faucet hair! Oh well....I'm sure my kids will think mine is just as ridiculous in 30 years :) Thanks for the great perspective!

See?  Why does nobody believe me when I tell them that tuxedos should be black - period!  I look at my album every year on our anniversary.  I put it away when my pastor saw our picture and said, "Who is this?  Are these people your relatives?" :-(
I was thin and DH had hair.

You know who's really going to be laughing? The children and grandchildren of the brides who wore cowboy boots or the grooms who wore camouflage vests.

Everybody, listen to @CMGragain or live to regret it.

  • My parents never displayed their wedding photos. My uncle has more pictures of their wedding than my parents do and that is because my grandparents had most of the pictures at their house. My FILs have a wall with HS grad pics of FH, FBIL and FSIL and FH's frat picture. They have one family photo and their wedding photo displayed there as well. My FFIL had a lovely brown tux. I know my dad wore black tux pants, a white tux jacket and had a lavender shirt.

  • My parents have a picture in their room and my dad has a black and white in his home office, basically where other people don't go. I asked for one, so my mom got me a black and white copy.
