Seating of the parents and bridesmaids walking

When the parents are seated, who gets seated first? Who seats the mother of the bride? Also wondering if I should have the bridesmaids walk down the aisle and then have the groomsmen meet them half way and walking with them the rest of the way? Thoughts?

Re: Seating of the parents and bridesmaids walking

  • The mother of the bride is normally the last person seated before the wedding party comes down the aisle.  She is seated by the person of her choice.  That can be the bride's father, who would do this before he walks down the aisle with the bride, it can be her own SO if she is not married to the bride's father or whomever is escorting the bride, it can be an usher, or it can be another person so designated.

I don't think it's necessary to have the groomsmen escort the bridesmaids down the aisle in the processional, especially if they'll be doing that during the recessional.

  • In my experience the groom's mother and then the bride's mother is seated.  An usher/groomsman often seats them.

I tried to have DH seat his mother at ours but she and our organist insisted that is not done and would not allow it so her son-in-law (an usher) seated her.  I wanted my step-dad to seat my mother (he was not giving me away) but he refused so my step-brother (an usher) seated her.

I've seen the groomsmen meet the bridesmaids halfway before.  It worked well.

  • MOG gets seated then MOB then BMs start down the aisle.

At our wedding, DH's grandmother was seated by his brother, a GM, who then walked to the front and stood with the other GMs and DH.

My mother was seated by my brother, who then walked to the front to play music.

The BMs walked in to the organ music by themselves (except for my MOH, because my nephew the RB decided he wanted to walk with 'nice lady!!').

Then dad and I walked down as my brother played the processional on the guitar.
