So I took my Save the Dates to the post office today to get them hand canceled. I had already read that some places will give you a hard time about it because they don't want to bother. Anyway, I had barely asked the question and the guy was like, "NOBODY does that anymore." Since our wedding is going to be 20's style at Henry Ford's ballroom, I used vintage stamps that are 20's themed and others that have Henry Ford on them. I realize that is very OCD but I was really excited to find them. The guy glanced at the stack in my hand and said in a snotty voice, "I see what you're trying to do here, you probably got those from some kind of collection, but next time you throw a party, can you just be normal?" He proceeded to tell me that all my envelopes were just going to come back to me in the mail because I wrote our return address on the back flap instead of the front left hand corner, so the machine wouldn't be able to read them (??? What does that have to do with reading the address of the destination?) I've never heard of this in my life. Then he asked if I wanted to give them to him or "throw them in the bin".. I just took them and walked out.
Has anyone sent their mail yet and know of a post office that will let you hand cancel? And stay away from West Bloomfield... geeze a simple "no" would have sufficed, guy....
Thanks for letting me vent!
