  I just experienced this at the post office and it was from the same woman! First she told me it would be $2.32 to send (I only brought one in because I was going to send it as a test to myself to see how the wax seal held up) and then when I told her it was for my wedding invitations she said oh well maybe we can get it sent through for $0.91. She gave me the whole too thick, square, blah, blah, blah lines too. I asked her what happens if I put $0.91 on it and that wasn't enough. She said my guests would get the invites postage due and would have to pay the extra before the could get the invite. I had her send my sample for $0.91 to see if it would go through, but then I decided to just pay $2.32 for all the invites just to be safe because I don't want someone to not get their invite because another post office that it goes through thinks it should be the higher postage. It's so frustrating!

  Not sure exactly what you are talking about. I was able to send my invite and the rsvp/envelope all in one envelope with one forever stamp. Granted I have simple invites, they are about the size of a reg hallmark card.

  @dluberts these are mine- square pocketfolds. Which is why it's $1.20 to mail.

  @tammym1001 that was my thought process exactly. I couldn't risk sending them for $0.91 and then the receiving post office decides its not enough.

  I suppose it does depend on the card stock and the size of the invitations you are using. I have 5 x 7 invitations and with everything included, I was able to use a 66 cent wedding stamp for each one.

  I was able to use a 70 cent wedding stamp for mine. Was 5x7, included an inner envelope and response card & envelope.

  You should just bring it to the post office and have them weigh it.  they will give you an exact postage amount, not number of stamps to use.

  @jenni1221 they did. I was just using the stamp amount for ease of explanation here. I was told 91 cents two times and $1.20 the other two times.

  ah i see. that's annoying! i brought mine to 2 post offices because the first didn't have any stamps I liked, but both gave me the same price.

  The post office I went to I had them weighed and I got two different prices from the same girl. LOL

  
  

  I think a lot of it had to do with the shape and thickness of the invite though. A normal 5x7 with minimal inserts is probably pretty easy for them to figure out. My invite envelopes are 6.5" square and I also had a wax seal and there was a bow on my invite that made it thicker.

  
  

  I did receive my test invite that we put $0.91 on at my house today, but I'm still not going to take any chances because I have invites that will have to go through other post offices so I ordered stamps today so I can put $2.32 on each of them.

  I bought a bunch of stamps before the price increased, and the invitation I weighed included: invite, reception card, response card, and response envelope. It weighed in at .9 ounces. Then I switched to a different company and now have: invite, reception card, and response postcard. I'm hoping the one less envelope will help but I will save on postage by using the RSVP postcards anyway.

  Holy cow!!  I'm in the same boat as @dluberts, I stuck a single forever stamp on the invite and that was it.  I fit the invite, and the response card with envelope (pre-stamped for my guests) and didn't have a problem  My guests in CA have received theirs and no one has had to pay extra shipping.
