Groom's Cake

How much should I expect to pay for a groom's cake?  I am giving it to him at the rehearsal dinner, so there will be probably 30 people.  I'd like to do a picture of a mountain bike or the shape of a mountain bike as the design. 

Did any of you married girls do a groom's cake?  Was it worth it?  Was he surprised? 
Engaged girls--are you planning to do one?

    I priced out a Groom's Cake at bakery's in the central CT area. I wanted something sculpted (similar to your mountain bike idea) or a round cake decorated - either way everyone gave me the same price $250. My rehearsal dinner is only 25, and they were all pricing a 12" round.

    I feel it's pretty expensive, to be honest, so I'm still trying to decide what to do - b/c I think it'll be a really fun surprise for him.
