What do you think of this unique idea??

Idea: I LOVE the farm table look--you save on linens etc. and it looks clean and natural...just my STYLE!
BUT, they are usually expensive to rent $60+ and we are having a large wedding. To save on cost I had the idea of doing some (maybe half) farm tables and the rest traditional banquet tables with linen etc. Has anyone seen this before? Does it look awkward or fine? I am the eclectic/natural/undone type of bride so I am not afraid to be different, I just want it to look good.
Does anyone have any pictures of how this turned out at other outdoor receptions?
Googling "farm tables mixed with traditional tables wedding" is not really yielding any results!! :):) THANK YOU!

    Is this what you mean?

I think a mix of tables would be lovely and add visual interest to the room, provided they have similar table settings to tie them in. Plus, I'd think it'd be easier if you're planning on arranged seating because you don't have the exact same number of people at every table.

  • I love the mix and match.  I wanted to do that, but we couldn't afford to rent tables.  It makes it look so much less "banquet hall-y".  Go for it.

Here are a few others I found. It makes my OCD go crazy.
This looks like they didn't have enough linens to cover all the tables... Definitely not a fan.

  • I like mixed and matched shaped tables, but either cover them all or don't cover them at all.  Only covering some is just weird and that you are trying to skimp on linen costs.

  • I don't mind mixing/matching shapes but think they should all either be covered or uncovered. I like the eclectic look of different tables but it looks unfinished if they're not covered consistently.

You might also want to consider changing your username if that's your real name. But I'm neurotic about stuff like that!

  • Unique in that there are some farm tables and some traditional tables covered in linen. Yes, I am the farthest thing from OCD and definitely NOT the traditional banquet hall bride. But good points about it looking like there was not enough linen to cover the tables! I wouldn't want that! What I might end up doing is using farm tables with a linen runner and then round tables covered in linen. That way the tables are distinct enough that people wouldn't think you ran out...plus, the farm tables I am thinking of are GORGEOUS. You would never ever want to cover them. But we can't afford 25 of them. Just trying to think creatively while still getting a few farm tables in my reception!

Unique means "being the only one" or "being without like or equal".  I just pulled those definitions from Merriam-Webster.com  Since people found pictures of what you want to do your idea is not "unique".  Hence why someone questioned your use of the word.

  • I think if you're thoughtful about how you arrange it, it won't be too bad. Like plan on having an equal number of farm tables and covered tables and stagger them like a checkerboard. That looks more planned and less like you ran out of tablecloths. It still entails spending $600+ for something few guests will notice. But if it's in your budget and it makes you happy, have at!
  • I feel the ones not covered look out of place. What if you used the farm tables for the head table, cake, guestbook, etc instead? That might help it flow a bit better.
  • I like your idea of using runners on the farm tables and having the round tables covered- I think someone posted a picture like that above. It's not everyone's taste but I think it would look nice as long as you have other elements that tie everything together. Go for it!

Funny, I thought it sounded kind of weird, until I saw Shrekspeare's example photos.. those are gorgeous!!  I also like how they did wood chairs with the linen covered tables and painted chairs with the wood tables.

  • I think it works in the ones where the tables were rectangular wood and round circles...the one where the tables were all rectangular does look like they ran out of stuff and mixed and matched.  I've also seen it done with the 'head' table and bridal party table being different.
