How to address...unmarried guests that will get married before our wedding

good morning everyone!

I have begun gathering all of the names and addresses for our invitations. Before I begin getting the envelopes addressed, I wanted to make sure I did this correctly. I have a friend who is engaged and living with her fiance, but they are not married. They will, however, be married before our wedding. Do I address the envelope to Mr. and Mrs. John Doe Smith  or Mr. John Doe Smith and Ms. Jane Doe Johnson? I figured it would be the latter as they haven't gotten married yet, but wanted to double check before I sent them.

Thank you!

I'd go with Mr. John Doe Smith and Ms. Jane Doe Johnson since they are not yet  married.
  • Ms. Jane Johnson
    Mr. John Smith

The names should go on separate lines because putting them on the same line and separating them by using "and" denotes that they are married but have different last names.

  • Thank you @jenni1221 and @Maggie0829! Wanted to double check before I started and then had to redo. I was confuded becasue she told me to put his last name since they will be married at the wedding. That didn't sound right to me.

    Thanks again!

Yeah that isn't right.  If they aren't married when invites go out then they should be addressed with their current names and titles.  To do differently would be weird and putting the cart before the horse so to speak.

Just remember that when you do your seating chart or escort cards to use their married names since they will be married by the time your wedding comes around.

  • I have to remember to make a note for that when we do escort cards.

    Thank you!
