chair covers!

Knotties --

I just found out the recommended vendor for chair covers for our venue would charge us $900 just to cover 150 chairs. is that crazy?!?! i'm absolutely not paying that to cover chairs! does anyone know a unique way to make the chairs look nice myself or does anyone know an inexpensive place to get chair covers?

Re: chair covers!

  • Do the chairs need chair covers?  What do they look like?  Remember that once people are sitting in them, no one is going to know or care what they look like.

Our venue only charged us $4 a chair, it sounds like your venue is charging $6 a chair, so it's not unusual or unreasonable.  Keep in mind if you get them yourself, your venue will probably make you put them all on and take them all off yourself instead of doing it for you.

I think Bed Bath and Beyond does chair cover and linen rentals.  You might also want to post on your local board and ask for local recommendations.

  • I don't think chairs need covers.

  • Since your wedding is in the fall in New England, I'd be betting that most people will wear a jacket and put it on their chair when they get to the reception, covering the chairs.  Plus no one will notice the chairs anyhow, so you'd be okay skipping chair covers.
  • Try your local board. I found my chair covers from a local place for $3.50 per chair.  I think chair covers really tie a room together.

You can buy chair covers for as low as $2 each (just click on the link), and probably get all or almost money back by reselling them, so $6 to rent them seems awfully high.  The real questions are a) do you need chair covers at all, and b) if so, are the services of the venue in putting them on and taking them off worth $5 a chair to you?

We had chair covers at our reception.  However, not only were the chairs at our venue ugly, they were also nonmatching.  (Some were metal folding chairs, and others were banquet chairs.)  Using chair covers tied the chairs together with each other, and with the tables.  I am not sure we would have used them under other circumstances.

I think asses on chairs tie a room together.  I'll spend my money elsewhere.

  • i dont think chairs need covers unless they look really out of place with the rest of your wedding style (like metal folding chairs or something).
literally all 20 or so venues i looked at before booking had this style chair:

these i think do not need to be covered and look pretty on their own. really depends on what the chair looks like but we were offered covers for $5 per chair so your price quoted seems accurate.

  • I would definitely encourage you to find a way to get chair covers if you want them. One of the venues we looked at was a georgous ballroom... and they were going to put in white plastic folding chairs. The chairs were perfect for a tent but not a ballroom in a museum. We ended up going with a different venue with awesome wooden chairs and the chairs were actually a huge selling point for me.

my place wants $7/chair because they charge $2/chair set up (so $5/ rental).  Sort of ridiculous, but buying them barely saves money and places the responsibility of ironing and cleaning in my hands.

does anyone know if all chair covers are polyester and/or satin?  do any of these rental places do cotton?
  •  $6/chair is pretty common, but you can definately find them for $2-$3, you can even rent them online.  But i disagree with some of the previous posts...Chair covers are necessary!!!! Especially if you have those hideous banquet chairs with hideous colors! There are so many of them it really does take away from your decor.  I am renting chivari chairs for $6/chair, so I would definately keep looking for a better deal on the covers.
