Thoughts on photos on wedding invitations?

I am designing my wedding invitations online because I have found it more cost effective and because I want them to coordinate with my save the dates which of course, have photos on them.  Problem though.. the only invites that match my save the dates have places to put photos on them!  I am getting mixed responses from friends and family about it so I thought I would ask you all!  Thoughts???  The invite actually looks cute but a lot of my friends are saying that it cheapens the look or makes it seem to casual.  My wedding is at a country club and it is fairly formal.. not black tie formal.. but it is a "jacket preferred" event. Help!

Re: Thoughts on photos on wedding invitations?

  • Why do you need to coordinate with your STDs?

I am not a fan of invitations with photos on them, no. I agree with your friends that say having the photos on there makes them look too casual. If your wedding is at a country club and is a "jacket preferred" event, you need to have more formal invitations.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • thank you Addie!  I have been thinking the same thing... it is nice to have someone else say it!  And sorry I posted this in the wedding party board.. I didn't even notice until now haha.
  • I'm not a fan of photos on invites. That said, our invites have our picture on it. My fiancé wanted it more than I didn't want it, and since I delegated invitations to him I didn't think it was worth pushing. It does look really casual, but we're having a casual wedding at a campsite where we hope people take our "dress comfortably" recommendation seriously and show up in jeans. However, our invite may have ended up too casual. We got lots of positive comments on the creativity involved, but at least one person mistook it initially as an engagement party invite rather than a wedding invite.

Photos are for STDs and Thank You notes.  Don't make this mistake.
