Ring Bearer Question

Hoping this is the correct board to post this question, but here goes...

So DH and I married a few years ago and now his brother and FI are getting married this year.  We have a LO that will be 3.5 years old at the time of their wedding and they asked us today if he would be the ring bearer.  I feel that BIL and FI just want to use him to make their wedding look cute, because they have made NO effort whatsoever to be in his life over these years, and they've been around and together since before LO was born. Also DH and I will have an almost 3 month old at the time of their wedding, so LO and I weren't going to be at the wedding that long in the first place.  They have other little boys they can ask to be in their wedding, so is it wrong to say our LO will not be in the wedding?

Re: Ring Bearer Question

  • Not it isn't, especially since you weren't planning on going. Just politely explain that since you are unsure of what will happen around wedding time that you wouldn't feel comfortable committing. Even if they knew your son, it wouldn't matter. A request to be a ring bearer isn't a demand and shouldn't strain your relationship to decline.

but what does LO mean? I just assumed it meant son.

  • Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

LO means Little One. BTW I love your clip!
  • Yeah, you can definitely graciously bow your son out of this one.
  • You can decline for your son to participate as their ring bearer.
  • Requests aren't subpoenas. The parents of minor children have always had the right to decline their children's participation in events, for whatever reason they like.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'

    Gotcha.
Thanks! I almost died when I heard that line. I was way too amused by it :)
