Bridesmaid Dress - Australia

Hi all - I have a bridesmaid in mind that lives in Australia... So I'm worried that she won't be able to get a dress / get it altered easily.  Do you know if there are any major bridesmaids dress companies that may have a large Melbourne, Australia presence also?

She'll be in the U.S. 2 weeks before my wedding for another event so maybe able to get altered within that timeframe??

The helpful power of Google tells me that David's Bridal is NOT available in Australia, but Alfred Angelo is (www.alfredangeloanz.com).

If you pick an AA dress, she should be able to order it and have it shipped to her in Australia and then get alterations. Or you could pick a colour palette and fabric and tell your BMs to get any dress in navy/jersey or green/chiffon or whatever. They don't have to match, and this would allow the BM in Australia to find a dress that suits her.

Also, a lot of bridal shops will tell you you have to order the dresses all at ones to have them match the dye lot, and by and large that isn't true, but I would think it might be if you're ordering inter-continentally.

  • Thanks. I thought about doing the Same color, different dress thing, but I'm not necessarily a fan of that.

Also, yes I know that David's Bridal is not in Australia.  And contrary to what you've said, HisGirlFriday, the Alfred Angelo websites say there are available: in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, South America and Hong Kong - so I'm not really seeing australia as an option.

  • They have an Australian website. I linked to it in my post. If you click on it, it takes you there. I did not make it up to befuddled you. I posted it to be helpful.

I also posted helpful advice, which apparently you aren't a fan of, and that's your prerogative.

But the Venn diagram of dresses you like and dresses in your colour palette and dresses in your BMs' price ranges and dresses available in Australia may prove null.

  • Can you get her measurements, order the dress and send it to her? I sent packages to Australia every few weeks.

  • thanks for the suggestions / help...

perused alfred angelo dresses and don't really like any of them... i think we will just end up ordering a dress sending it overseas.

This is the company I got my wedding dress from.  Great construction and beautiful dresses.  They have a bridesmaid line which I linked above.  They are out of Australia and they are sold in quite a few stores in America.  Maybe you have a store close to you that you and some of your BMs can go and look at the options.
