Reception Timeline- Help! Feedback and suggestions desperate!

Hi everyone, 

 I will be getting married this August 2014, and I'm struggling with my timeline. Is anyone else here doing a sit-down dinner then dancing? My fiance and I are hosting a sit-down dinner, and we wanted to ensure that everyone ate, so we were going to have dinner first, with the speeches and our lion dancer performance, then our first dance. How did/are you brides and groom doing yours? Any recommendation on how we should layout the timeline?

    Why would you think that not everyone will be able to eat with how you have it planned now? I mean, even though the dancing type music starts doesn't mean that everyone has to stop eating their dinner. I would have dinner served and then after about, I don't know, 45 minutes speeches can start then your performers and then you and your groom can have your first dance. If people aren't done eating then they can certainly sit and eat their dinner while they watch you and your groom dance.

    I agree with Maggie.  Plated sit down meals are usually done in 30-45 minutes, tops.   You could start your speeches at 30 minutes, and do your performance immediately after that, then your first dance. 

    So, lets say this:

    6:00pm dinner served

    6:30-  toasts/speeches

    6:40-6:45 - Performance

    7:00 - Bride & Groom first dance

    7:05 - Parent dances (if applicable)

    7:10 - open up dance floor

    8:30 - cake cutting (or you could cut your cake before your meal is plated, that way your caterer can serve it immediately after people are done eating)
