Video or no video??

I have been watching wedding videos for years, I love seeing the emotion and hearing the loving speeches. I had always said that when ever my fiancé and I got married that we would, without a doubt, have a videographer for our wedding. Now there is doubt, it is still something that I would love to have, but my fiancé does not feel that it is worth the cost. I understand what he is saying, it is expensive, but I was able to find a photographer who was willing to give me a bundle discount if I hired him to do my photos and video. I am worried that if I don't hire a videographer that I will regret it.
So I was hoping I could get some feedback.

Did you have a video of your wedding? If so, was it worth it (cost wise) and how often do you actually watch it? If not, do you regret not having one?

Re: Video or no video??

  • We did not have a videographer.  I do not regret it.  Honestly, after about maybe a month after receiving my professional pictures I rarely look at them.  I didn't even have an album made and I only have a handful hung up in my house.  So I think that the video would have gone the same way as the photos.  Just sitting with the rest of my DVDs collecting dust.

  • My friend told me that she wished she had her wedding video recorded. Her and her husband went through a rough patch, and she told me she wishes she had it to see and hear the vows they promised each other. Luckily, they came through and all is well. But, it's what ultimately convinced me to get mine videoed. Even if I never watch it again, I'll have it if I need it.

  • Didn't have one and don't regret it.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I had one and would regret not having it (although I was very disappointed in my pictures so I think that helped). I got a great deal with my videographer so it was well worth the money and I honestly would have paid more knowing how much I love it.

What I love about my video is I have a highlights that is only 10 minutes and then another one that is 30 minutes (covers most of the ceremony, cake cutting, toasts etc). The 10 minute one is the one I share with everyone, and the 30 min one has only been watched by close family. My SIL's video is 5 hours long!!!! That got watched once (and I think we fast forwarded alot!). So I think the key to enjoying your video for years to come is having one that is short and sweet.

  • I can't afford one at this point. We are paying for the wedding ourselves, and after the initial budget, anything else will only be added if we can afford it as we go. I'm not about to go into debt for one day. Instead, I had a friend who offered to record the wedding for me. I love editing movies, and can do it on my computer at home. The footage won't be super awesome quality, but it's free. I got lucky having a friend who offered this, and I know not everyone has that come up.

Holy shit!  Did the videographer not edit it down?  So it is basically her entire wedding from beginning to end?  That is insane!  That would be like watching the last two Harry Potters back to back (which, needless to say, would be more entertaining)!

  • FH and I bought a Canon Rebel as our wedding gift to each other because we want to have a good camera to take pics of our future kids and any adventure the two of us go on before kids. It has 1080 HD video taking capability so we are planning on setting up a tripod at our church to just film the ceremony. Nothing fancy, but neither of us wanted to spend the money on a videographer.

We didn't have one and I slightly regret it. Would it be an option to only video the ceremony? That is the important part, in my opinion.
