  • What in the...?

But at least he can get a hefty tax deduction!
  • That's hysterical. It sounds like a heck of a lot of work for very little money.

FI played with the idea of doing part-time work on the side but we decided that time together would be more important. However, I've managed to take on some side work myself. (I write resumes and do job search consulting on the side.)

  • Hahaha solid plan, guy!  I had a plan to throw out some of FI's ratty white tees and socks that he wears every day, but now I know exactly who to send them to.  Bonus: I happen to know he's owned some of them since we got together in 2007: they're wonderfully gross/ yellowing/ covered in holes.

  • That's hilarious.  I agree that they will end up with a lot of leftover junk.

FI had a part-time maintenance job, which has very flexible hours and requires about 2 hours a day work.  When he got full time employment, he kept that part-time job also and we have that income direct deposited into a wedding bank account. Unfortunately, that means he's working about 10-12 hour days now, but his full time job starts early so he only gets home about an hour after I do. I've told him that I'm fine with him quitting the part time if it gets to be too much (I don't want him killing himself or exhausted all the time), but he wants to at least keep it until after wedding, then he may consider it. Especially since he's going back to school and will have a fuller class load in fall.

  • Um. Wow. Where is he going to put all of this crap?
  • I think he's watched a few too many episodes of American Pickers :P
  • Having a huge sale like that is a lot of work. And probably the junk they're going to get will be just that -- junk. Probably dirty and gross, even, meaning they'd have to clean it up first if they want any chance of selling it. This is a hilariously terrible idea.
  • I saw the line about scrap metal and all I could think about is that line in Phantom of the Opera....

"You may have heard about their recent success in the junk business."

    "Scrap metal"

  • It's better than a GoFundMe request.  At least the guy is willing to put in work to have the wedding he wants!

That's exactly what I was going to say! I can get behind his willingness to get down and dirty earning the money even if it is a tad bit unconventional :)

  • That's true! I just don't think he's going to make any money off yard sale junk lol

  • Oy. Sweet of him but unfortunately I don't think it's going to work out in his favor.

You'd be shocked at how much money you can make off a garage sale!
