Indian destination wedding

I just got engaged and new to this blog.  My fiance and I are interested in a Indian destination wedding, possibly somewhere tropical.  I have no clue how to begin planning this!  Has anyone ever been to an Indian destination wedding- if so, where and any tips?  We were thinking about Jamaica since there seems to be an existing Indian infrastructure on the island but neither of us have ever been there.  Any advice?

Welcome to the board! sandhyajp on the SA Bios had a destination wedding in Turks and Caicos, mostly non denominational but with Indian touches -- here is her bio: http://web.me.com/asif1680/BIO/Bio.html And I believe mastistyle is also having a destination wedding. I thought there was one more SA knottie but I could be wrong... Anyway, if she doesn't respond to this, I would page her on this board!

COngrats on your engagement.  I am getting married in Jamaica-but it will not be a full blown indian wedding.  I have met a few girls who did have a traditional indian wedding in Jamaica and Mexico.  Jamaica does have alot of indians.  But if you select somewhere outside of Montego Bay and/or Kingston-there are fewer/no indians. (ie-I am getting married in Negril, and the mendhi lady I found was charging me $300 plus hotel, transportation and food!) Have you started looking into locations?  I know the Half Moon in Montego Bay had an indian wedding 2 or 3 months ago.  Some things to think about...size, traditional, elaborate, veg vs non veg, alcohol.  The resorts seem to be pretty accomodating, most of the time.  You can email me at mastistyle at hotmail if you have any other questions.  HTH!

Probably not what you were looking for, but I've seen a lot of things about Indian destination weddings in India, especially Goa if you're looking for something beachier.  (I've also seen non-tropical destination wedding descriptions for Rajahstan, which I'm sure I misspelled, and then around Nainital, which is where my fiancee's family's originally from.)  Somebody on here recently, Neha maybe?, got married at a beautiful location in Florida.  Not sure if you have recently-immigrated non-citizen SAs as guests, but visas can sometimes be an issue if you're doing it somewhere other than the US or maybe India.

Thank you all for your help..this board is fantastic!Mastistyle- do you know by chance where in Mexico you know people who have had Indian weddings.  Mexico actually may be more convenient, but I just assumed it was impossible to do since there are no Indians there.  I actually have talked with the people at Half Moon and they are very accomodating, just super expensive!  I'm trying to find something a little more low key, little less pricey but still does Indian..are you getting married at a resort or do you know other names in Jamaica?I think Goa would be amazing and affordable..just so far for family in the US and friends to get to!  My fiance is also a very non-traditional Indian so I think getting married in India is out...if it were up to him, he would get married on the beach with nothing but a bathing suit!  Thanks!

what about a tropical place in the US? I am from California and I know a lot of people get married in Malibu or Santa Barbara near Orange County. Also I went to a South Asian beach wedding in Miami Florida and it was amazing. Not really out of the country destination but it was significantly cheaper for us guests to travel to.

Also I forgot to mention, that you can take any venue and turn it into an Indian bash you would have to bring in your own elements as well as renting the Mandap and such.

I second Goa!  I've never been, but from what I've heard, it's nothing like the rest of India.  You'll get a very tropical/beachy/resort feel, but all within India.

Yeah-Half Moon was a little pricey when I was looking. But the girl who got married there told me that she had to "change a few things" instead of a horse, her husband arrived in a gold cart, instead of a dhol player, she had a steel drum. She did tell me that she flew some people down-mendhi lady who also did her hair, makeup, and sari draping, her priest. I am getting married at a resort-but it isn't a typical resort. I say that bc itonly has 20 or so rooms. But it still offers the same amenities-AI plan, spa etc. I really think most places will be accomodating to have what you want-and hiring a weddig planner may be a big help as well. I have not used this one but I found this when I was researching http://ajuaweddings.com/rel_wedd.html Alot of places I checked with even offered to build me a mandap if I wanted. As far as Mexico-Cabo San Lucas, Playa del Carmen, PV. I don't remember the hotel names off hand-but can you send me an email so I can get them for you when I get home? mastistyle at hotmail

Goa or Rajasthan are obvious choices.Or you could even try Bali. Bali is an Hindu island, albeit their version of Hinduism is a bit different.I know of a half-Indian wedding happening in Puerto Rico, although I don't know what kind of Indian resources you can find there.

Anyone have advice for planning interfaith weddings in Europe?

I'm American, my fiance is Scandanavian, and we're thinking of doing a very small wedding that blends Hindu (mine) and Protestant (his) traditions, in Tuscany or another wine region in Europe.

    Thanks in advance!

Help!  I am from Canada and looking to plan a sikh/hindu wedding in Miami Beach - any help or advice would be amazing since I am begining the planning now!
  • Destination weddings are slowly taking off, and especially Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Goa etc. If you are looking for something which is very exotic, full of royal heritage and still very comfortable you should definitely look at something in Rajasthan for sure :) There is a helpful article I wrote recently for udaipur destination weddings.. check it out!
