I was behind those people in Starbucks

You know the ones who have a super specific order? They ordered two drinks but wanted each one made in such a specific way (two pumps of this, no foam, ect) that the barista had to write it down. It took forever for them to order!

Re: I was behind those people in Starbucks

  • I love Sbux and I still hate those people.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • I REALLY hate it when THOSE people use the drive thru!  I always order a tall blonde roast with cream and I always get behind one of those crazy people.
  • My husband is one of those people.   Been here a month today and the local Starbucks has known his order for 2 weeks now.

I don't drink coffee or order thing from Starbucks so I'm never get behind those people.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • If someone has a complicated order I can deal.  It's when I'm stuck behind someone who asks what EVERY SINGLE ITEM on the menu is.

Bitch, my break is only 15 minutes long.  I will cut you.

  • Um... I am one of those people.

I like my latte with no frills, and hot enough to survive the drive. So I always order a venti non-fat, no foam, extra hot hazelnut latte... Sometimes with an extra shot (triple).

Please don't hate me for being tired and not wanting foam to take up precious latte room, and not wanting to pack on unnecessary lbs before my wedding :(

That isn't too crazy. These people had like 20 instructions for each drink and I'm not exaggerating.
  • I actually don't order coffee at Starbucks.  I LOVE coffee, but I have a Keurig and make my coffee at home.  At SB I always order iced green tea with whatever the seasonal flavor is (peach, raspberry, or whatever).  I can make green tea at home, but they always get fun flavors!  And I'm green tea obsessed, maybe even more than coffee.

Iced green tea lemonade is the shiznat.

  • I used to be a barista. That stuff didn't bother me at all when I worked there. I liked the challenge and loved seeing the crazy stuff people ordered. When I worked there, I had my own crazy drink.

    Non fat
    3p vanilla
    latte
    add shot
    with caramel syrup

It's almost an upside down caramel machiato, but not quite. For some reason, I felt it tasted better when the espresso didn't come in contact with the caramel.

I order like a normal person now.

How good are they?!  I haven't tried them yet... but I have to work tomorrow, even though I wasn't supposed to,  (Now TWO clients want to meet tomorrow?  AND my boss is out of town? Balls!) so I am thinking a delicious caffeinated drink is justified.

I just worry because their is a weird taste to their caramel stuff to me, it tastes too artificial or something.

  • I sometimes am 'that" person. Took a pic of the cup with it everything written on it, when I realized it, and the general facebook consensus was that it was, "such a douchebag move, Casey!"...lol!

FSIL, though, I can see people getting frustrated at if there's a line. She literally asks an inch or 2 of caramel at the bottom of whatever drink she likes, and the baristas never put enough so she goes over and prompts, "more...more...more...more...that's perfect!"

  • Well I guess my Saturday plans are going to include a trip to sbux now... Thanks ladies for kicking up a huge craving!

  • I was behind a woman who's Starbucks card balance was $1,065. That's more than I had in my checking account at the time. Like what? And here I thought I had a problem with 1-2 visits a week.

  • hikebikebemerry - it was yummy!! I think my favorite is still the caramel machiatto, but the fan latte was still delicious. I might be biased because I LOVE flan, so it was a bit like eating some flan for me.

  • I always order a soy green tea latte, no classic, two pumps hazelnut, so I also have a specific order. I'm fine with people having specific orders as long as they know what they're ordering instead of dicking around at the register.

  • I am that person. If I'm going to pay $4 for coffee, I want it made the way I like it.

Oh, and I was a Starbucks barista in college. It's mot difficult to make alterations if you know what you're doing. Just different proportions of milk, coffee, and flavor.
  • I am also (almost) that person, because like cruffino says, if I'm paying that much, I want it the way I like it.

Also, I for years I was not allowed to drink coffee because of the medication I was on, but my doctor said I could treat myself once or twice a month if I really wanted it - so I used it as a reward system. I set a goal, and if I made the goal that month, I got a fancy coffee. Seeing as I was only allowed that one coffee, I wanted it to be my perfect experience.

Of course, we don't have Starbucks here (except maybe at the airport...) but we have Seattle Coffee Co. which is more or less the same thing. I almost always get something hazelnut. Or Irish cream.

  • I am that perosn... I also used to be a Starbucks barista and if the person is decent at their job it shouldn't take any longer to order a specific drink.

I get a venti latte with one pump white mocha, one pump hazelnut, and 3 pumps carmel, no foam, no whip. ***Sorry***

  • My current obsession is a tall, sugar free vanilla latte with an add shot and whole milk. seriously ladies, whole milk. Never going back. And apparently, people who drink whole-fat dairy products are thinner than those who drink non fat, so it can't be bad!

@casey8784, it is amazing! Kind of like a Caramel brulee they have at Christmas. It is my all time favorite and when I was a barista, I learned to make it. this way actually tastes better that the syrup for caramel brulee, not as sweet

  • I'm on the "it doesn't bother me as long as they know what they want" train.

I'm a Passion Tea Lemonade girl... two pumps classic, two pumps raspberry syrup. Yummm.

Exactly. Former barista too.  As long as they don't bark out orders, "pour the shots, give it three stirs, tap it on the counter exactly 3 times, then put the lid on," any number of modifications should be easy for a trained barista. My order changes with my mood but probably my most "complicated" would be Quad-Venti, 3 pump toffee nut, non-fat, extra foam, latte.
