Best Man

The best man in my wedding is an old friend of both mine and my fiance's. He has huge side burns (like Abraham Lincoln) which has had for awhile but now he has grown a pencil line mustache. I really do not like it and to me it looks strange and it is scruffy looking (I really do not like the scruffy look for the wedding). Can I ask him to shave?

He already assumes I'll have him shave and he agrees to it but I have yet to actually ask. Is it fair to ask him? Can I at least ask him to clean it up?

Nope. His face, his hair, his choice. This is really a non-issue. Anyways, this is who he is so why would you want to change that?

    No.

  • Nope. If he decides to shave the child molester stace' on his own, awesome. But you may not ask him to do that. His body, his choice.

  • Nope. His facial hair, his choice.
  • No.  It's his face and his hair.
  • No.

  • Absolutely not.  Just b/c you are getting married does not give you a free pass to dictate how your friends should look on your wedding day.  He was asked to be BM b/c of his friendships with both of you, not b/c of what he looks like.

  • My H has side burns and a goatee.  He has had the goatee since 8th grade (when he could grow one and the rest of the boys couldn't!).  My BIL asked me if my H would have to shave for the wedding.  I said, Why?  This is the guy I met and he has always been like this!

While you may not care for the new creepy moustache, this guy must like it.  So let him have it.  Also, there was a poster on here who said her H's BM always had crazy facial hair.  It is a part of him, so she never asked for a change.  This guy then showed up to the wedding clean shaven without any prompts!  Just hope for that in your head, but don't say anything to this guy.

  • Nope. The fact that he assumes you're going to ask him tells me you have exhibited other 'zilla behaviour.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • Nope, my fiance grows a HUGE beard in the winter, then trims and shaves and does random things that I may or may not be thrilled with. I'm marrying him and wouldn't presume to tell HIM what to do with his facial hair, much less one of his friends.
  • Of course not.

    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • Nope.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

Thanks everyone I wasn't sure which is why I said nothing. OliveOilsMom I will keep in my head the idea he may shave.

HisGirlFriday13 I do not believe I am a "bridezilla" I have just had really bad associations with facial hair (beards) due to a past event.

  • My fiancé had a mohawk when he was a groomsman in his brother's wedding. His parents weren't thrilled, but he didn't want to cut off his hair for one day. He brushed it back and looked nice on the wedding day. You could actually barely tell that it was a mohawk. I'm also curious about what bad experience you had with a beard? That sounds like what a person afraid of dogs would say.
