Finding the dress! UPDATE: I found it! :)

Hello everyone!

First time poster on this forum, but I have been lurking for quite a while! As a plus size bride, I have to admit that dress shopping is the one part of the wedding process that I'm fearing/avoiding the most!

I plan on going shopping in Washington state in May for dresses, and was wondering if anyone had any plus size wedding shops that they could recommend anywhere in the state? In my search, all I'm finding are places that may only have a few plus size samples in stock, and to be honest that doesn't increase the motivation or excitement at the possibility of finding a dress. I'm currently in school in Virginia, so that is an option as well, but I would love to be able to find a dress while I'm back home with my mom and sister!

Thanks in advance for your help/guidance! I'm going to be very happy once I have crossed this "to-do" off my list. :)

Update: I found the dress! It was the first dress we pulled and the second dress I tried on! I love it and it felt really great! I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone on this forum for your help! I really thought that dress shopping would be the most stressful part of the wedding process, but taking your advice on this board and doing research on the stores to visit really helped! I haven't had any second thoughts on the dress and still feel great about it. The relief I feel is huge, and now I can get excited about all the other wedding details. :)

Thanks again for all of your help!

  • The best thing to do would be to post this on your local board.  I'm sure there are plus-sized women there who would be better able to direct you to salons that have a nice selection.  I found that David's Bridal has a large selection, so you could always try there, especially if you're eager to go try on some styles before you go home.

To get to your local board if you're not familiar....go to the right side of the screen, under Choose Another Board, select Local Wedding Boards, then go.  A page will come up with all the local boards, and you can select the one closest to you.

    Good luck!

  • Wow, you are my savior! I have been looking for days and missed all of those, lol. My plan is to do everything in my power to get it while I'm home, but if not I will definitely be buying back in VA. Just in my initial searches for VA it felt like there were a lot more plus size options, but now you have given me hope that maybe I can find it in Washington!

    Thank you so much! :)

@pennyluwho make sure the salons have more than 10 options for plus. the worst would be for the salon to say we have plus sizes and have only 2 samples you could try on or worse when a place i called said we have one size 20 do you want to make an apt we have some 16s you could place the dress to your body and see. no way will i know how the dress fits.

another place i called said we have larger sizes 14s 16s a few 18s i said i am a size 20-22 in street clothes none of those will look right on me i would need at least 20-22s and 24s to try on.

also make sure they have true plus sizes be specific in what size range you need to try on if you are a street size 20 you will fit into 22s 24s and maybe some 20s depending on the fit i am a street 22 and fit into samples in 24s 26s  the 28s and 30s she had i was clipped to see how it could look to my body

i do bridal in Seattle has plus size according to a review on yelp but they wont let you take photos of the dress unless you commit to it and many reviews state that they cut out the tags of the designer and the price so you have no idea what designer you are purchasing from they have samples up to a 22 in the store

but again like another poster said check your local board to they can really be helpfull as well
  • Thank you so much! Lots to think of, that's for sure. I actually have already began to contact places on the list gave me, so hopefully I get some information soon!
