Snarky Brides

Okay, WTF. Have you seen this?

I'm all for the right to be pro-life or pro-choice, but really?

  • Yea, I think it's sick. As a married couple, after 4 months how could you not know if you wanted your child?
They make it seem like its a piece offurniture they could do without..should we buy this couch or naw? You tell us!
  • So, they get pregnant twice, miscarry both times then get pregnant again. Now they are considering abortion? Idiots. This is why people need a license to breed.

  • I think parenting classes should be mandatory curriculum.  I took them in HS just because I thought someday they might come in handy.  And they did!

This. You miscarry twice then finally have a successful pregnancy and debate terming it. Not even debate though, not even make their own decision but rather rely on strangers to decide.
  • Well in the article they say that when they were pregnant the second time they started this, but miscarried before they got to the point of reaching a decision.

  • I'm sad to live in the same state as them :-(

I'm all for pro-choice and whatnot, but this is abusing such a privilege.  It's blowing up all over and lots of people are voting to skew it towards the abortion side, just for shiits and giggles.
  • It makes me wonder about having another child.  Is this world something I want them to see/grow up in?

  • And they go on to find out the sex of the baby. Why do you care what the sex is if you don't even care enough to keep him? There are soo many people in this world that are deserving and try and try and never succeed but yet these people get pregnant with a child they are uncertain of. And instead of providing a good life and loving family, they give it no chance at all.

I was just about to say that.

I don't even have words for how horrified I am by this.

Exactly! They know what causes this. It's happened to them twice already. If you're unsure, use protection. I really wish I  hadn't clicked on the link now. Most things stupid I can just brush off, but this, I can't.

  • I believe it is a hoax.
And as I stated before, I'm not sure the Gawker is a reliable news source.

I searched for it, and only found blog results and a TV report - no npr or ap story.  However, according to local media, the site was taken down last night.

  • I don't get it.  IF you're thinking about abortion, then keep it as a personal, private decision.  Isn't that what pro-choice is all about.  How you don't get harrassed about choosing to get an abortion, among other things of course.  What would possess someone to do this?

  • Haha - I had to teach my mom finally about snopes.com. I went there first.

I mean, when you look at a website and the banner has a link to a story about "John Travolta's sex life" and has 2 men with towels draped over their laps, you kinda figure you're looking at a website on the level of US Weekly and Star. Both of which have good puzzles, I'll admit. But I wouldn't go to either for a reliable news story, unless it was on who Kim Kardashian was dating now.

  • A friend linked the actual site on FB yesterday and it was still working around 9. I can't comprehend why someone would do something like this...

  • I think this is a pro-life stunt to "make a point".
  • See, I think, if anything (I think it's something but I mean anything like this...) that it's a pro choice stance
  • I think it could go either way, but I think it's a stunt nonetheless. Way too dramatic.

If you read the article linked above to the end there is a link where they state it was a pro life stunt.  The couple is a part of many pro life  groups and blogs under other names.

I must say that this makes the pro life movement look bad.  I don't understand the political tactics people use these days.  I wouldn't be persuaded by this (though I am pro choice) and I don't think anyone else would either.

Gawker cites all of the stories they blog about. Do they put their own sarcastic touch on things? Sure. If you click the links within the stories you'll see that they come from reliable new sources like the new york times or washington post.

The John Travolta pic is clearly photoshopped for their story (supposed to be funny). Not everything on there is breaking news, but I didn't post the John Boehner story from a site that wasn't based upon actual news stories.
  • Hello ladies. I've just been kind of a lurker lately, but this story really got to me and I felt like I just needed to post about how disgusted I was by this. Even if this is a stunt, these two OBVIOUSLY are not ready to be parents. I know some of you in here are parents, and could you imagine even PRETENDING that you were considering abortion when you were pregnant (if you actually weren't)? I can't! Once you've made the decision to get pregnant/keep your child, you could never think of ending that child's life/giving that child away/harming that child. I think these two are disgusting individuals, and I hope that if they choose to keep this child they do some MAJOR growing up, or decide that adoption is the best route for their unborn child.

This type of stuff just really gets to me... /rant.

  • This sickens me.. I have 3 kids and would never even think of this! Hoax or not it's still disgusting. There are people out there that struggle for years to have kids and can't and someone like this is going to parade around and make a "show" of it... *shudder*
  • It wasn't meant as a criticism of you, LTZ. Sorry about that.

I just know that most media  slants stories to read the way they want, and journalists don't always fact-check before they rush to publish. I don't mean that as a blanket statement; but it does happen - I've got personal experience.

And, yes, I know the Travolta photo was photoshopped. Funny thing is, one week, one tabloid talks about how happy they are and how much this baby means to them, then the next week a tabloid (maybe the same one) has that accusation and that Kelly is just in a crisis.

I still stand by it being a publicity stunt.
