I'm a skier!

Sunday morning, FI and I drove up to Killington, VT. Now, FI has been skiing for many years. He's really good it and it loves it. I tried to ski once, was run over by a snowboarder and was scared to try again.
Well, I decided to get over my fear. I took a two day lesson. And I was really good! And I love skiing! I can't wait to go back.

Here's a pic of me my instructor took.

Afterwards, FI took me shopping and bought me some kick ass boots! The rentals murdered my feet. And because I can't resist because he looks so adorable, he's a pic of FI at the ski shop. Excuse the crazy hair. It was in a helmet all day :-P

Re: I'm a skier!

  • woohoo,

My DH is skiing today also.  First time since 2006 for him.  Back in the day he did back-country so I'm sure he is fine.

I have only been a few times.  Very first time down the slope, not just first day. FIRST TIME DOWN, I ended up on crutches for almost a year.    Took 10 years for me to try again.  I enjoy skiing, but I want to be left alone.  I do not like going down the hill with people I'm traveling with. I like doing it at my own pace.

I'm waiting until May to go skiing.   That is when our new insurance kicks in. Much better policy.  Just in case you know   :p

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • How fun!

Cute pictures! I have never tried skiing. I have gone snowboarding a few times and I'm not awful at it. I ran over my brother's arm a few years back and busted it. In my defense, he was spread eagle on the snow, what was I supposed to do? My company just had a guy from Ontario here for a few weeks and he absolutely RAVED about how great our snow is. I would be interested in learning how to ski.

    Was it super difficult?
It really wasn't so hard because of my instructor. He started out really slow with me and gave me the confidence I needed.
  • Happy to hear that it was a good experience! I want to try skiing once of these years. We've got a great place to go near my house - just need to actually go do it! And bt dubs - your FI is SO adorable, crazy helmet hair and all!

I used to love skiing; my dad's family is huge on skiing, to the point where all winter vacations during my childhood involved going to Vermont and New Hampshire to ski. My brother even teaches skiing as a part-time job. But I've only gone once in the past 10 years; I had a rare orthopedic condition that went undiagnosed for years and caused ski boots to be excruciatingly painful. That, and I'm estranged from my dad and his family, and I can't afford to go often.

But when I went a few years ago, I still had a blast (leg pain aside). I also kind of love how everyone looks wind-burnt and ruffled after skiing. It's a look that's always felt very, "Wow, great day!" to me.

  • Awesome! Love your pics :) I have only gone skiing once, it was maybe 3 years ago. We went with a bunch of FI's cousins and went around the Monticello area. It was a lot of fun! Although, I stayed on the bunny slopes the entire time. I was too scared to try snowboarding. I also did not get an instructor, I kinda just skied (skiied?) up and down the bunny slope, and fell a bunch of times. It was still a lot of fun!
