Sooooo I'm kind of excited to find this board because I cannot share my wedding day plans with my friends (I will share why later)

If I get too carried away PLEASE let me know. I just really have no one to talk to and share my excitement with.

I'd like to ask you ladies several things:

1) Have any of you met your future spouse online? - Initially I am scared to tell people I met him online (POF) because EVERYONE has a negative opinion the first thing they think of is the craigslist killler ok I didnt even meet him on Craigslist Ha! My friends already have reservations about me meeting him online in the first place. Which comes my second question

2) Have you ever hid a secret that means a lot to you and sad you cant share? I am sooooooo excitied to be getting married I would have never ever though I would find love. But gosh I feel like I cant tell my friends because of the negativity like Why are you rushing? You met him online? He lives in DC and you in Cali how is that going to work? Im so sick of explaining myself and my reasoning for my happiness that I just dont want to tell anyone. It makes me so sad not to involve my BFF  but I dont think I want to tell them til after, I just want to be happy.

3) What do you guys think of the Stratosphere? Right at the top very, beautiful view memorable right? At first I though max 10 people (5 each) but I talked to him last night and he said he wanted just him and I and actually Im ok with that because of the above.... thoughts?

Do any of you know someone who has gotten married on the stratosphere?

PS my date is 12-13-14 how cool huh? Do you guys think it would be too windy?

  • first off congrats. Im in cali :) Im not with anyone but I was for awhile, we had decided to get married here but I pulled the plug. I still haunt the board because I cant seem to leave it and some of the ladies knew me then :). First off its not crazy to meet online because I have before hand. 2. I have dated long distance. I say this follow your heart and listen to your gut :) Do what is best for you and your FI.
  • @CaliRed I met my now FI on MYSPACE!! haha when I was 19 and he was 20... we dated for 5 1/2 years before getting engaged. I still feel weird answering the "how did you guys meet?" question but come on - this is the technology age! It shouldn't be weird. My best friend also met her FI on match.com and are getting married this year. If people are still that close minded about online dating, they need to get with the times! CONGRATS!!! :)

As for the location and wind - no way to predict the wind. We can have a terribly windy winter/spring/summer/fall, it just varies. For instance this last week has been horribly windy, but then it dies off for the next week's forecast. So what if it's windy - you'll have that windblown hair look! haha. If that's the location you want, go for it!!

  • @calired another cali girl right here!
Well like the above poster I too met my man online..on MySpace lol he was 19 and I was 25 big difference! We have been together 6 years and I couldn't be happier. I kept our relationship on the down low to certain people but then as time went on I would start to be more open about us so I know how hard that is to keep it in.
I don't know anyone but if you really like that venue then go with it! Congratulations on your engagement :)

  • @calired~ here is my story of POF, i had a profile met on POF "the man of my dreams" who was a sheriff here locally, I thought this is amazing! Hot man, best job, loves kids ( i was a then single mom) and gushed to my friends who said oh so and so? ya he found my number thru a domestic violence call and then started acting freaky/stalkerish...but that was a year ago so im sure he changed! needless to say i stopped talking to her about him LOL!!!! but he ended up asking questions about my past who was in it only things you would know if you researched that way ( no i don't have any felonies) anyways i worked at a Hospital, loved my job, wouldn't you know that when i got off work at 3am i would have a sheriff follow me home, when i left my apartment i would have a sheriff follow me to work...he ended up switching cars every day and following me, showing up at random places that i was at, i was almost ran off the road b/c of him. I tried to file a complaint but since he was high up i got threats from him, things started happening to my car...it was AWFUL, this was a 6 month period.  He has now been discharged bc more reports came about of him doing this to single moms in the area.
Now fast forward to my present life, I met my fiance at work he is a Corrections Officer and I worked at the hospital, he brought in a inmate that day and we hit it off and have been inseparable  ever since, heres the crazy part LOL he had a profile on POF but was to chicken to write me bc he thought i was way out of his league! I really don't mean to alarm you, im sure your FI is amazing! Just what happened with me:)
    Congrats on your upcoming wedding!!!

I met my fiancé on match a little over 6 years ago. When I went for my first dress fitting the alterations lady asked where we met, I told her, and her response was that they have a lot of brides who met their grooms on match and POF.

As far as your friends that's a tough one. You need to do what you feel is best for you but sometimes our friends see something we don't want to see. Sometimes they are jealous of the new relationship but more often than not they are concerned for our long term happiness. It could also be they are scared of losing you, knowing that eventually you will move to be with him. Without mentioning the wedding maybe you could talk to your girlfriends and find out in more detail why they do not approve?

The Strat looks like a great place for a ceremony! I have never been so I am of zero help in that department!

Congrats on your engagement and welcome to the board!

  • I met my fiance on eHarmony. We only dated for 8 months when we got engaged. When you know, you know! I proudly tell people I "bought" him off the internet (eHarmony membership was $240). Yeh there are net creepers but guess what... those same creepers also meet people in bars, parks, libraries, cafes etc. Dont be ashamed of your internet romance OP!

@tcnoble @valeriecruz82 - Myspace OH wow what a throw back! lol but I am glad you all found someone. and you are right if they cant get with the times (technology age) oh well!

@ssteele04 yes girl I have had my ups and downs with POF been on there 6.5 yrs had married me make plans with me so I know there are some crazies on there. But there are crazies in the real world too right?

@shoebunnie you are right maybe they are concerned with my long term happiness? I mean they do know first hand everything I have been through in the past. I hope thats the case versus the other negative things

@missmo14 im so happy for you $240 is a low cost to pay for eternal love. I think you caught a steal :)

  • @valeriecruz82 hes from Inglewood, i have no clue where that is at, i think it's near LA?
@calired~ yes most definitely & like @missmo14 said when you know you know! Time stood still when i met my man!

  • I pulled the plug because he was lying and cheating.
  • I met my husband on-line also. He lived in TX and I am in WA. After 6 months he moved up here to be with me and then after 5 years (and a son) later we got married :)

  • @chyannek ~ WA girl here!

  • I'm a Stratosphere bride too, in September, there don't seem to be very many of us Stratosphere brides, not sure why as it looks like an awesome venue!

  • Sweet..which part @ssteele04
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • @CaliRed The view is great, the prices should be affordable. Stratosphere isn't in the greatest area, and it's separated from the rest of the major casino-resorts, which is why it isn't as popular. If you do the wedding in the restaurant, don't worry about the wind. :)

My best friend in college met her husband online on the ads through the Onion! And they've been together for umm....probably about 7 years now? So it can totally work.

Just one thing - I eloped here in Vegas years ago, and my parents were incredibly hurt that they weren't invited. It was a major issue with severe long-term effects. I've since divorced the guy - don't get married if you fight over chicken nuggets the morning of your wedding - but I'd highly recommend talking to your fiance about inviting parents.

    Good luck!

  • @cirena166 thank you for sharing such insight. it really has got me thinking.

@chyannek thank you for sharing I am glad so many other people found love online and it is actually working for them!! so many people think it will fail just because you found love online!

    @kazza25 I will PM you

  • Hey @missmo14 ghetto has many meanings some are : a low income area, housing projects, gang infested area, high crime rate etc there are so many definitions for ghetto lol
  • Hi @CaliRed I also met my husband on an online dating site.  Things moved pretty quickly and six weeks later we had decided to move in with each other.  Soon after that we bought a house, got engaged, then got married.  We both live in New Zealand but because he is from Wales and all his family live over there we were stuck on where to have our wedding.  We could either have it in NZ and disappoint his family, or have it in Wales and disappoint mine.  So we decided to have it in Vegas and disappoint both!  We kept it really small, two close friends joined us and it was just what we wanted.

I think that the stigma of online dating is getting less and less.  It is just a modern medium to meet people and if used wisely is a great tool.

The Stratosphere was one of my options but because we stayed at the The Cosmopolitan we decided to have our wedding reception/dinner there.  I am sure the Stratosphere would be a really memorable choice.

    Happy planning :-)
