FI's taking one of the apartments in the building he manages. FMIL and I are going into town tomorrow to take a look at it, but we're taking the flat whether we like it or not, because we've run out of time to find other options.
I was given a choice between a downstairs apartment with wood floors, and an upstairs apartment with tiled floors. Under the impression that the two apartments were identical other than floor finish, I picked tile, because it's slightly easier to clean. FI then came back to me two days later and said that the downstairs apartment has an extra room that the upstairs apartment doesn't have - great for storing the boxes of things we're NOT going to be using while we're in this apartment for the next 6-12 months. Also, the downstairs apartment is ready for us right now, whereas the upstairs apartment they're still in the process of evicting the current tenant - which could take months still.
So we're taking the downstairs apartment. I'm happy because it means we don't have to lug all our really heavy furniture up the stairs. And we're coming up on winter now, so wood floors will be warmer than tile.
Move-in will be either this weekend, or next weekend, and FI's company isn't putting any pressure on us to take the earlier date, despite the fact that it would mean more money for them. I'd prefer next weekend because I still feel really shitty, from the bugs I picked up last weekend, and I don't think over-exerting myself at this point is going to help my recovery.
