Cocktail hour / favors

We were going to skip favors, but I was thinking of doing centerpieces for our bistro tables during cocktail hour as like a big wine glass (I'm a wine drinker) filled with our wedding colors (purple and silver) Hershey kisses and Reese's (FI's family has multiple family members that work for Hershey so I like that it ties them in and it could double as a favor. I would decorate up the glasses so they aren't really like "candy dishes". Does that sound like a good idea?

Also, for about 75 people at cocktail hour, how many bistro tables would you think I need for mingling cocktail hour? Thanks!!

Re: Cocktail hour / favors

  • You will need seats for everyone (not just bistro tables) at the cocktail hour so people can sit down to snack.

If more than three people use a bistro table at a time it gets crowded so I would do 25 bistro if those are the only tables available.

Personally, depending on the venue and the furniture they have available I would do a mix of seating types and a mix of tables so people can use what is most comfortable for them.

  • I agree with what @AprilH81 is saying about the bistro tables and sitting arrangements. As for the favors, If you're going to put them in the middle of the tables with candy in it, I would suggest making a little sign to let people know that the candies are there for them to eat, not just for decoration :) I know many people would assume that anything in the center of the table is for decoration only, so letting people know that it's for them to snack on as well would be a nice little treat and make sure that you're not let over with a bunch of candy :)
  • I have never been to a cocktail hour that had enough seats for everyone...

That doesn't mean it's not appropriate to not provide seats for everyone or that not doing so is okay.  I'd make sure everyone has someplace to sit even during the cocktail hour.
