Second Thoughts on Dress

I ordered my dress in January at my second appointment to try on bridal gowns. I had a favorite at the first location and then a favorite at the second. I fell in love with my "second" favorite.

Well two months have passed and my dress is scheduled to come in in July, and I'm second guessing myself. Did this happen to any of y'all? I had a dream last night that on my wedding day I was wearing the first dress and I woke up feeling uneasy. I think a lot of it is nerves and the fact I change my mind about "outfits" alot. I just want my dress to be here, now.

     Stuck In Box

Dress regret/stress is totally normal. I freaked out for months before my dress came in and after my dress came in.

Before you make any decisions, go back to the salon and try on the dress you ordered again. If you feel the way you did when you ordered it, you know you made the right decision.

  • I didn't have that problem, but I also wore an heirloom dress, so there's that.

FWIW, I like the dress you ordered MUCH MUCH better than the first dress. I think it's more elegant, more wedding-y, more classic.

  • @PDKH I have really considered doing that. I keep telling myself not to look at the pictures from trying them on because I don't feel like cell phone pictures do it justice! That's a great suggestion, I may do that this weekend :)

@HisGirlFriday13 I think that is hy I chose that one. I felt like it was more wedding appropriate for a church/winter wedding.

  • OK both of those are fabulous- you cannot go wrong!! But yes, I ordered mine in December and just got the call that it's in. I'm going on Saturday to try it on and I am so nervous. They only had a sample 12 to try on and I'm a 4 so I have no idea what it's going to fit like and I just really hope it's amazing. I saw that Allure on someone else here thought oh crap, is that one better than mine? I think it's perfectly normal!

  • @jenna8984 Thanks! I think the one I ordered shows my figure better, I think. The sample size was a 10. It zipped but fit awkwardly. My measurements are weird: bust size 12, waist size 4, hips size 12/14. It's always hard to tell exactly how the dress will fit once it is altered

  • Both are beautiful dresses but I also prefer the dress that you ordered.

  • @shrekspeare I feel like both are "me". Not a ballgown or too poofy. The one I orderd just felt like the best version of me. UGH! I don't know! I really do love it. I think I need to go to a store just to put it on.

@wandajune6 Thank you. I wouldn't be upset if someone hated either dress or both for that matter.

I LOVE my dress and don't regret my decision, there where no others that i felt as good and happy in, BUT after it came in and trying it on I have become nervous and wondering if it was a smart choice. It's a fit and flare and i'm afraid about moving/sitting in it!  From a comfort standpoint, I am afraid it may not have been the best choice, but there is no going back for me now.
  • @jenni1221 I really do love it. I want mine to be form fitting and comfortable, is that possible? Haha. FI loves my figure so I figured I'd show it off for him.

I def wanted form fitting as well.  I love the one you ordered and I bet when it comes in you will try it on and remember why you loved it so much.

I tried mine on when it came in and it felt snug in my hip area, which worries me...but I still do love it and wouldn't trade it for any other.   I am going in next week for my first fitting, so hopefull this time I'll feel more comfortable, and move around more to see how it's going to feel.   This is my dress:

I had dress regret. I had this nagging feeling that I hadn't really found the right dress, that I didn't look as amazing in it as I thought (doesn't help that the one picture of me in it is TERRIBLE!!!), and that everyone was just yes-ing me because they didn't want to hurt my feelings.

I'm wearing a navy blue dress, so I'm kind of constantly convinced that people who said they liked my dress/that it looks good on me said so because they worried that if they said they didn't like the dress, I might assume they just didn't like it because it wasn't white. Or something.

7ish months to go and the doubts haven't quite left. A few things have helped. First and foremost, I keep reminding myself that there is no one perfect wedding dress for me. There always MIGHT be a better one out there. And what happens if I wear a dress to my wedding and the dress isn't THE DRESS? Nothing. At all. What matters is that I loved the dress when I first saw it, and even time I put it on, I like what I see in the mirror.

Another thing that helped (which is NOT for everyone) is that my partner has seen me in the dress. In person. It's helped to have his 100% honest opinion, and it even helped that "OMG YOU LOOK AMAZING" didn't just tumble loudly out of his mouth immediately. I felt like he really looked at me in the dress and thought about it and honestly liked it.

Right now, most of my dress regret? HOW DO I DANCE IN THIS THING.

The bolded is a good way to look at it. Like you said, there may always be a dress that could have been better. My bridal consultant told me to just remember how much I loved it that day and that moment wll come back when I put it back on.

  • I had major dress second thoughts. Then it came in and I put it on again. I loved it!

  • Another vote for going back to try it on again. My sister had some dress regret after she bought her dress. We went back the next day to "show my dad," but really to give her a chance to try it on again before deciding if she really wanted to get a new dress. Once she had it on again, she felt a lot better and she looked gorgeous on her wedding day!
  • both a pretty dresses, but when I saw the one you ordered I definitely said WOW! Agree with PPs if you are really stressing go back and try on the one you ordered just to calm your nerves. How did you feel the day you ordered it? Try to remember how you felt. Did you feel pressured into buying it, or were you genuinely excited about it? From the picture it looks absolutely stunning. I dreamed one time that I wore a baby blue wedding dress lol--and my husband was in a baby blue ruffled tuxedo. no idea why. Wedding dreams occur all the time but I am not convinced it is directly related to our subconscious. I think it is related to all the decision we have to constantly make, which get overwhelming, leading to these weird dreams.

I was unsure of the dress I bought. But it was the right one in the end. Hands down. I can't believe I even doubted it for a second. Both of the dresses you posted are absolutely stunning. I would go with whichever one fits your body type best and makes you feel fabulous.
  • I didn't have dress regret, but I did totally forget what it looked like and felt like, even though I had photos of it.  Once it showed up and I put it on again, I remembered and felt better.  I didn't absolutely love it though until after the first fitting, where it was finally taken in and fit me without have to hold it up.  That's when it was finally my dress.

@erinlin25 I didn't feel pressured at all. It was just me and my mom and I wasn't expecting to buy anything that day. But I did feel like a "bride" when I had the dress on and could see myself getting married in it. After all of your feedback, I am going to go to try on the sample again just to see how it feels. I completely think I'm overthinking this and am being impatient while I wait on it.

  • @erinlin25 And the part about the powder blue tuxedos cracked me up. Mainly because both my dad and FI's dad wore those tuxedos for teir weddings! Oh the 80's.

  • I've worried about mine on and off - mostly because it's pretty fancy and I'm worried people are going to think I'm nuts.  But I do love it.

  • @grumbledore This uneasy feeling seems to fluctuate. I know I love it and I'm just going to concerntrate on that

  • Totally in the same boat here. My sisters keep assuring me that the one I ordered is perfect so I just have to trust them to be less emotional about it than me. Especially since the reasons my crazybrain is coming up with aren't even applicable to clothing, like "is it romantic enough?" Dummy, dresses aren't romantic; situations are. Stopitstopitstopit.

FWIW, I love both dresses but I do think the one you ordered is more "wintery" and the other seems better suited to a summer wedding outside in a garden.

  • @Lolo8383 I think that is why Ioved it so much and ultimately chose that one. It fits the time of year better. We are going for a romantic feel for our wedding also and I keep catching myself, "is this considered romantic?" And I'm like no, table cloths are not romantic lol

  • I also think a lot of this stems from thinking that there's only one dress in the universe that will be perfect.  I wear dresses at least 50% of the time, and I think that helped me put it in perspective.  IMO, it should be comfortable, something I really like/love, and look good on me, but there's not just one dress in the world that fits those criteria.

Maybe it's because I like to dress up and I have other occasions to wear fancy dresses (performances, the opera, etc) but I didn't go into it thinking "ZOMG THIS HAS TO BE PERFECT OR THE WORLD WILL ENDZZ!!!!1!!"  That kind of thinking seems more damaging than helpful.

Ahhh you just helped me articulate the major reason I'm freaking about my dress.
