Bar Option Help

My venue has 3 bar packages.

- Beer wine and 2 signature cocktails of your choice

- House bar package (open bar with well spirits)

- Premium bar package (top shelf liquor)

Initially with the numbers we thought we were going to have for the wedding we had planned on doing the beer, wine and 2 cocktail package. Now that we are getting more declines we are looking into the house bar package. I ran the numbers and we can afford it now, but it will be pretty tight with the budget. Should I opt to do the full open bar? Or stick with my original plan?

I don't want people to feel that we aren't offering them enough to have a great time, but I'm not sure I'm totally comfortable getting that tight with my budget either.

Thanks!!

If it makes your budget tight, then I vote against it. You never know where you might have forgotten something you need to pay for.
This.  Before you make a decision to go with the house bar package, make sure everything else in your budget is covered first.
  • Stick with the limited bar for the reasons PP said. Beer, wine and two cocktails provide plenty of options, especially if you do a clear spirit for one cocktail and a brown spirit for the other.
  • with the limited bar we get 6 brands of beer and 6 brands of wine. The two signature cocktails will more than likely be some type of vodka soda and then some type of bourbon cocktail.

I guess I more or less worry about people being disappointed that these are their only options. The one plus I suppose is that we choose the liquor for the signature drinks. whereas the house bar package is well liquor.

But you guys are absolutely right. I dont want to get too tight with the budget and realize there is something else unexpected to be paid for.

Luckily I have a few more weeks to decide!
  • Don't worry about "these are the only options." They only have certain options of food, too, right? And that's true when you go to any party, or even a restaurant. They'll deal.

  • Beer, wine, a dark liquor, and a clear liquor really are "alot of choices". Save your budget!

  • 6 types of beer, 6 types of wine, and 2 signature cocktails is PLENTY. It's definitely not worth stretching your budget that far just to offer the option of different types of spirits when many will stick with beer or wine anyway.

  • That's true. I pretty much stick to wine when I go to weddings. And we are having

    BBQ....BBQ = Beer haha.

If the premium bar is too pricey, definitely go with beer, wine, and two cocktails. I'd choose that over crappy liquor any day!

Thanks! Yeah the premium bar was never even on the table haha. I wish it was! but it wasn't going to work out. I'm starting to think some awesome beer and wine (we can pick any 6 of the craft beers they carry) and 2 cocktails with some good liquor is better than well liquor any day.

This! I would not be any happier about well liquor than "just" beer and wine. And 6 beers/6 wines/2 siggies is a lot!

  • Dont forget- a lot of people drink liquor at weddings "just because it's there", but would be perfectly happy with beer or wine. Don't feel you need to use all your money "just because it's there"- if your original decision was good enough then, it's still the perfect decision now!
  • I vote keep it your original plan especially if it tightens your budget too  much.  I know with most of our family wine and beer with a signature cocktail or 2 is plenty variety :)
