Hi folks,

I'm having a bit of a dress dilemma. I've started looking at dresses for my November wedding, and thus far I'm not having much luck in brick-and-mortar stores. What I'm looking for is kind of a lacy, vintage look -- think Stevie Nicks or your great-grandmother -- but most of what I'm seeing is strapless, blingy, and floofy-skirted. I'm going to start looking online soon. Can anyone give me any pointers on where to look for vintage-style dresses? I know about Ruche but that's about it.

You might want to try modcloth. They have a new bridal line that is pretty inexpensive with a vintage vibe. Plus, they have a great returns policy!

Do you live near an Alfred Angelo? My dress is from their Modern Vintage line. My first dress was from Ruche, but it didn't fit. I had to up my budget, but the AA line are all under $1,000, I think. If youu are on a tighter budget, I second the Modcloth idea. They have free returns, so you can't go too wrong.

Most online sites are Chinese knock off sites. Do not order anything direct from China! The photos on their websites are not their own, but are stolen from original designers' sites, usually from a few seasons past. You have no way to control quality, and no way to get a refund.
Lace has been very fashionable since Kate and Will's wedding. Have you checked David's Bridal?

It depends on what sort of vintage you are looking for. If your looking for the short 1950 s inspired gows/dresses then dolly coutoure is a good place. They do custom designs and as long as it's a short tea length version it should be around $500(they also will do a custom for longer dresses as well it'll just cost more).

If you are looking for a long dress with a lot of flow/great gatsby inspired then a lot of stores have dresses similar to that style since it's so hot right now.

Most of those dresses are going to be out of your budget. Check Tradesy.com for some pre-owned gowns. Davids Bridal also has sales for dresses under $200.00.

Although there is no refund, I have already ordered twice from Izzi dresses, last time in september of last year and it came perfect and I looked great. The only thing, order one size bigger than the one you wear. I don't know if they are knock off or not, I just know I bought a product that was perfect.

Consider looking at bridesmaid dresses in white. That could get you in the $200 range. They won't be as dramatic with a train or as much structure but it sounds like that is your style anyways.

Another option if you really want a vintage style dress is to get a vintage dress. Look on Etsy under the vintage section (not the "handmade" section where it is pretty much all knockoffs or way out of your budget). You will need to know your measurements and have to be willing to accept that each dress is unique and you will have to hunt. I got my dress on Etsy, it is vintage, fits perfectly with no alterations, and was only a little bit above your budget.

I searched for "stevie nicks wedding dress" but play around with searches and you might find the perfect dress.
