I hate waiting

FI and I bid on a house on Friday. Yay! But apparently the bank isn't even looking at offers until later this week (Wednesday or Friday).

Wehhh.

  • Hang in there! House hunting and bidding were not a fun experience for me, so I feel your pain. It's annoying for it to be such an everyday mundane thing for realtors, banks, brokers, etc (because it is) and you're stuck waiting out such a big decision in your life.

    Fingers crossed for you!!

Ugh, I know. Especially because around here, in my price range, I'm also competing with investors who are going to flip the place for another $50k, putting the house firmly out of my range. How about just let some of us middle class people have our nice, middle of the road houses, huh?

  • Good luck! We're house hunting as well (bid accepted, inspection done, got the appraiser in this week). I hate people who say house hunting is fun. This has been anti-fun. Being in the house will be fun, the process is miserable.
  • Plus side: Realtor sent an email to let us know the owner acknowledged receiving the offer, with the subject "now we wait." I sent her the above image as a response. She says back "OMG that is my favorite movie (and I hate waiting too)." I think I will keep her.

If the house you bid on is bank owned (as in repossessed) it can take a very long time to finalize a contract.  The bank will often wait for better offers before they decide.  When my DD and son-in-law bought their house last summer, they didn't have the flexibility to wait for this, so they only looked at owner-occupied homes.  Didn't your agent explain this?
Good new is that being flexible about timing can save you money!  Good luck!

  • She did explain it, I am just very anxious. We have all the time in the world (our current house is owned by my mother, so there are no lease terms) but I am very excited about this possibility!

  • That is an awesomely exciting possibility. FI and I bought our home and closed right before Christmas. It is such an awesome feeling. Fingers crossed for you!
  • Boo!!! Hopefully you hear something back soon!

Oh well. At least they didn't wait a whole week to tell us.
