How Many People is Too Many for a Couple's Shower?

My FH's sister and brother-in-law have generously offered to throw us a couple's shower. None of my family will be there (I'm flying home for a shower thrown by my mom and sister's this weekend!). His only family in the country are his parents, sister and brother in law and they will all be at teh shower.

Other than them, I'm not sure who to tell his sister to invite. Right now, if we invited all our friends from the area that are invited to the wedding, the guest list would be almost 50 people. To me, it seems excessive to ask his sister and brother in law to host a shower for us at their house for that many people. What do you ladies think? If I do need to cut, does anyone have useful suggestions for how to do that?

Start off by asking your FH's sister and BIL how many they feel they can afford to host.

You certainly don't need to invite everyone from the area who's invited to the wedding; if you'd rather have a small shower, stick to your closest friends.

Ditto pp's get a number from the host of what they can afford and accomodate. Then from there come up with a gustlist of the female friends and family that are closest to you. Make sure to include all of the mothers, grandmothers, and sisters of both families.
