*Rant* Letting the Fiance plan the honeymoon

I gave him the honeymoon because I'm too stressed out with the wedding and he wanted to help. Boy, was that a mistake! I seem to forget that this is the man who will take three weeks to order a damn remote control! Two months he's had to work on the Honeymoon. What do we have? Plane tickets and one hotel for three nights! Oh, but we even had to change the plane tickets because he changed his mind on the return flight date. Thanks for that $600 change of heart!

So I'm getting anxious. I want this planned! This whole time we've been talking about Barcelona and southern Spain. But all he can look at is hotels- not actually thinking about itineraries, distances between places, what we want to see... let alone budget (sorry babe, we can't stay in 4 star hotels every night). So I started pushing him on getting things booked and he sends me this "what if" idea of a 2 week itinerary of Northern Spain! OMG! After two months of looking at stuff in Southern Spain he ups and suggests we change all of our plans?

Forget this. I'll have an entire itinerary and hotels knocked out in two days.

  • You will be better off if you plan things.  I research every trip we take and make all the plans.  My DH has travel anxiety, and he is horrible in an airport.  Road trips are a nightmare.
We were in southern Spain last year on a cruise, and we both loved it!  It can be very strenuous.  Europe is not handicapped friendly.  The Alhambra was more than I should have attempted.  We would both like to return to Spain.  We are history buffs.  Their train service is wonderful for inter-city trips.

  • LOL yup men, men. When I was planning our trip to Asia last fall, I googled everything. I had printed google maps of how to walk from our hotel to the park, to the subway, to this temple. All written out in English "turn left here" along with hours and admission fees and which are on the way to which. I had it planned to a T. The whole time, he just followed me around saying "This place is awesome- how did you know there was a temple here?" Hello- I've been working on this for 8 months!! lol

  • @SBmini

If you need any recommendations for a Northern Spain trip (more specifically in the Catalonia region), feel free to PM me. I've been living here for years and could give you some insight if you want - especially with in-country travelling (trains, best rental car companies, etc.)

  • If it makes you feel better, we're 3.5 weeks out and all we have is our flight and hotels--we can plan the exact itinerary on the plane if we have to (though I'd really rather not). It's not like you NEED every single thing planned months in advance.
  • Give it to a travel agent.  Tell him/her what you want and what you already have done and he/she can work out the rest at no cost to you.  They are paid commission by the hotels/airlines/trains.

  • I like to take trips about 75% planned, it leaves room for spontaneity. I want to get our hotel in Valencia and Granada figured out because we'll be arriving to both cities in the evening, but after that... we'll probably start playing things more by ear. When we went to Japan a few years back the only hotel I booked was our first one in Tokyo. We booked our Kyoto hotel before we left Tokyo then we had a few days with big question marks on them. We ended up going over to Yokohama and wondering around the mall, Japan's tallest building, and went on one of the world's largest ferris wheels. It was among my favorite memories of the whole trip and we didn't do anything very remarkable.

@loro929 thanks for the offer! I would like to know more about car rental companies since we plan on driving through Andalucia opposed to using trains.

  • Yay fire has officially been set! After spending all last night researching Mallorca- booking flights and a hotel- and then this morning telling my fiance how stressed I was with everything going on, he let me know that he'd book Valencia and figure out transportation for the remainder of the trip today.

  • We did a trip to Southern Spain a few years ago.  It was one of my favorite trips.  We stayed in Costa del Sol (Torremolinos) at a hotel that was right across from the beach and within walking distance to all kinds of shops and restaurants.  We did day trips to Gibraltar, Morocco, Seville, Alhambra, etc.  Loved it.  Any questions, I'll be glad to help if I can.
  • We are getting married in Jamaica and will be there for 8 days. The week is our honeymoon and wedding and we will not be planning out every second of our time there. We might book a few resturants and a place to site see but I do not want to feel like I have to have every second of every day planned.
