Vietnamese Brides - Where did you get your Ao Dai?

Hi!

I'm trying to find a place to get my Ao Dai. I don't have the option to get it in Vietnam and I don't see any of my family members going over there before the wedding. I live in Chicago, but there aren't any good places here (unless you can tell me otherwise!). I've heard of aodaivinh.com, but have heard both decent and horror stories and I'm not sure I want to take that chance.

Does anyone have recommendations or know of reputable sites?

Thanks!!

I flew to California for mine (I live in Florida).  I didn't want to risk ordering one from the internet. I bought my sister's in Orlando.  I just prefered someone measuring me.  I paid more than I expected to since I wanted a train for my jacket.  Are there no shops that make them in Chicago? I would have thought there is a larger Vietnamese population there than compared to Florida.

Surprisingly, there aren't good shops for that kind of stuff in the Vietnamese area. A lot of ppl or their family members just go back to Vietnam to buy it themselves. I could have our family who are still over there send a dress, but we had them do that for my brother's wedding (we even sent actual pictures as examples!!) and they just have questionable taste. So, I'm trying to figure out other options I may have.

How about getting a plain ao dai and finding a nice jacket? My jacket only came in one size so it didn't matter.  Here is mine:

Ooh...that's a good idea!  I'll look into doing that. Where did you find your jacket?

I bought my jacket from a store in California.  I can try to get the info of the store and see if she has any there.  Maybe you can contact that store if necessary.

The store I bought my jacket from was a lady who also runs a photo studio.  It's called Beautiful Wedding, 9500 Bolsa Avenue, Suite D, Westminister, CA 92683. (714) 839-5318. www.beautifulweddingphoto.com. I hope that helps some!!  I know I tried looking for a jacket with a train online and couldn't find one.

I was happy with aodaivinh.com and also aodaiheaven.com.  You just have to be specific with what you want in your instructions (e.g NO GLITTER), and write them in both vietnamese and english. It's so much cheaper online than it is in the U.S. I think.

I second aodaivinh.com, that's where I got mine and my BMs' ao dai.  As a whole, service was very quick and accurate.  I got exactly what I wanted, except for my mom's ao dai.  Her's was blue instead of turquoise.  There were discrepancies between the screen and in real life.

If this happens to you, don't fret.  Just accept and be open to a little variation.

As you know in many Asian languages, color is hard to define.  For more info what I'm talking about, read here:
