My first true wedding breakdown happened last night/this morning

So FI and I went wedding ring shopping yesterday. We were there until after the store closed because I couldn't find anything I liked. My ring is a solitaire, but it's set a little different than most solitaires so the rings they had weren't going with it. So after all that, I finally picked a ring and let the poor people who stayed late go home.

Fast forward to last night: I had to give them my engagement ring so they could configure it with the ring I chose since it didn't fit together perfectly. I couldn't sleep all night. I kept thinking how I picked the wrong ring and I was going to have to wear this ring forever and I wasn't even sure I liked it. I was also freaking out that they had already started to put the rings together and my beautiful engagement ring was going to be ruined.

So this morning I was literally waiting next to my phone until 9:00 when the store opened. I called and asked them if they started on my ring yet. They said no so I said please don't do anything. I went back to the store and spent another 2 hours there going over every possible situation that we could do for my ring; new setting (which I wasn't fond of because I love my ring), keep the ring I already bought, have the jeweler make another ring that didn't quite fit with it work, create a whole new ring, or just go with a simple band.

It was absolutely exhausting and in the end I ended up giving back the ring I purchased and picking out two bands to put on either side of my ring. That was seriously the worst decision I've had to make so far! In the end, I know I did the right thing because the first ring clearly wasn't right if it was causing me that much anxiety.

Sorry this was so long, but I just had to vent about how difficult this was. Such a long day! I'm glad I got something that I really love though. They still had to keep my engagement ring though :( Now I won't have a ring to wear until after the wedding.

  • Wow. I'm glad it all worked out. My wedding band was purchased months ago cause I just got the one that matches my engagement ring. FI actually was the one buying up wedding bands like they were going to rot. All of his (I think a total of 3 or 4) cost like twenty bucks a piece from Amazon lol. But even with all the craziness I'm glad you went with your gut and got something you love :)

  • That's funny that your FI bought so many bands. I didn't really think too much about what I wanted because I just kind of assumed they would have a band that went with it. Boy was I wrong. Lol

  • Oh boy, I'm glad you got it figured out! Sounds like you did make the right choice - good for you for trusting your gut!

I'm going through some ring related anxiety as well. Groom already has his ring in his possession and I can't choose on a ring! I thought this would be a lot easier than making some other wedding-related decisions (like my dress, venue, colors, etc.) but truthfully, THIS is the one thing I'll see every single day for the rest of my life! Talk about pressure!! I NEED to choose soon though. Agh, wish me luck! Glad you got it all sorted out!! :)

That was exactly what my problem was. I'm going to wear this piece of jewelry every day for the rest of my life! It was the hardest decision to make. LOL Good luck with your ring search!

  • I understand what you were going through! I had a similar situation. FI and I went to the same jeweler that made my engagement ring. Our appointment was great and we both picked out rings that we loved. Mine was a lot more expensive than I anticipated because I, of course, the ring I fell in love with had a lot of diamonds. When we came back a few weeks later to try them on, I didn't like my ring! I couldn't get over how different it looked from my engagement ring and it just didn't look right to me. The rings are custom made so there's really no returning. Well when we finally took the rings home, I got used to it and realized that I'm crazy. Lol By the way, they had to alter my engagement ring to fit my wedding band but that only took 30mins. Why is it taking your jeweler so long? I would've been so upset!
  • @ddvirts - It isn't actually taking them that long to do it, but I am having my wedding band(s) saudered to my engagement ring so I can't wear it when I get it back until after we are married. I didn't want to wait to have it done though because they had to order the wedding band I picked out and they wanted to re-dip my engagement ring and a couple other things so I just told them to keep it and get everything done when the wedding band comes in.
