Dress regret?

So for those who have experienced the dreaded dress regret (cue the dark, ominous tones) - what was the outcome? Did you keep your dress? Or fall in love with another completely different dress? What was the main basis for your final decision?

Re: Dress regret?

  • I got a new dress that I love. I'm going to attempt to sell the other dress.
  • Sorry, forgot to answer you last question: I ordered my dress online and it just didn't fit me in the bust. I tried losing weight, but it wasn't enough and the seams were pulling.
  • I  had some dress regret, but not because I didn't love my dress. FI and I were originally going to have a DW at the beach so I bought a dress for that. Then we changed our minds and now we are having a fancy wedding at home in a private country club. I was worried my dress wouldn't look right or I missed out on having a big fancy ballgown. I tried my dress on again and I tried a couple more traditional dresses and I realized I loved my dress no matter where my wedding was taking place.

  • @shrekspeare you pretty much hit the nail on the head about how I'm feeling. I find my dress stunning and unique and yet not at all what I pictured myself going down the aisle in and I can't get that thought out of my head. I'm going back in to the shop next week to try it back on because I did love it when I bought it - it's a consignment shop and I live with FI so she's been holding it for me...
  •      I'm hoping I don't have dress regret. I ordered mine of Ebay for $160.00. I'm not too worried. If I don't like it my mom is a professional seamstress and I sew very well. I risked the Ebay one because mom said she couldn't make it for that little and it had everything I wanted.

If it turns out to not fit well we can alter it. Also it has some beautiful applique's on it and those aren't cheap so we can take them off and use them and make a new one, so there isn't much risk.
  • Meh.

If I can get my dress altered how I want, then I'll be super happy with it. If not, then I'll probably regret it. So jury is still out.
  • Hey girls,

I bought my dress in January and have had regrets ever since! My Mom and Dad chose it for me and as time went by, the vendor really pushed me (the dress might not be there anymore the other day and I would only get the 20% discount the day I tried it on).

I always wanted a dress with a tulle skirt, short train and lace sleeves, but somehow I feel it could be more fashionable, youthful (I'm only 26), and sexy.
Now I'm thinking of getting rid of the polyester sash as I think the bow tie doesn't really match the dress and get a silk satin sash instead which is bound in the back. Also, I would like to remove some of the opulent lace elements.

What do you think of my enhancement ideas? Would you do the same and do you understand why I feel this way about my dress? :/

    Thanks!
    Lena
  • @lenac45 the belt looks lost on the dress like it blends in to much have you thought about a nice lacy crystal belt it would give the dress just enough pop so its sparkly but not over the top where it screams to much bling.

As for the sleeves i would keep them but maybe see if the lace on top can be taken off but not all of it maybe like so it looks edgy sort of if you get what i mean?
  • Thanks so much for your reply, @hyechica81! I appreciate your honest opinion and I think we both totally agree on the top lace. I'll make sure to have some of it taken off so it doesn't look this bulky anymore.

Regarding the belt I must say that I quite like the idea of "blending in" and I'm not so much a sparkly girl (although I know that crystals are very much in fashion since the Great Gatsby). What I don't like so much about my belt is the polyester appeal and, most of all, the bulky bow tie. Don't you think a silk sash tied in the back with the ribbons running down would be a bit more of an eye-catcher that adds to an ethereal appearance? : )

Attached is a picture of the back of the dress (note: I'm not wearing the short veil pictured, but a headband from Sibo Desings, Style 318).

  • @LenaC45 I agree with you about replacing the sash. I think the lace at the top actually looks lovely, but if it's not you, then you could certainly alter it. The back is stunning, btw!
  • I had dress regret. I was deciding between two and picked one but could not get the other one out of my head. I even made a pic collage of the two side by side and realized I really loved the dress I did not pick a million times more. I got super lucky and the shop had not been able to charge my credit card because it was over my daily spending limit so I went back, tried on both again and picked the other one, and I am so glad/relieved/happy I did!
  • Thanks to everyone for their helpful answers and comments!
Just wanted to point out that I do not intend to have the lace taken off; what I mean is the thick embroidered edging which I would like to get smaller (sorry, no native-speaker). : )
