Both my dad and step-dad are walking me down the aisle

Both my dad and my step dad are walking me down the aisle which we are all perfectly happy with :)  My question is, what should I do for the father/daughter dance?  Each have a seperate one?  One cut in part way through?  I love the cutting in idea, but unsure how that would go over.  Help please :)  and thanks!

  • I think cutting in is good b/c it cuts down on the number of spotlight dances people have to sit though.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • I agree. Or maybe 2 songs but only a portion of each song - not two full songs.  Fade out of one and in to the other, so they are getting separate dances but not taking double the time.
My reaction to most everything on the internet today:

  • I like ladyamanuet's idea of two songs faded in/out; I'm less fond of the 'cutting in' just in case of any hurt feelings (no doubt it would be fine, but it's a wedding and feelings run hugh!).

I'm with you on this... it might seem like the one who cuts in is saying "excuse me, but I'm her real father".

  • I did a dance with both my father and stepfather. We did two separate dances but I had the DJ find a place in the song to fade it out that tell between a minute and a minute and a half to avoid guests having to sit through 8 to 10 minutes of father daughter dances.
  • Someone I know just witnessed something like this at a wedding.  Her SIL was the groom's biological mom and the groom's step mom cut in on the mother/son dance.  Unfortunately, in her case it seems like this plan wasn't really vetted with Mom beforehand and Mom felt terribly disrespected by Stepmom.  :-(

I am thankful in your situation that your dad and stepdad get along so well and are willing to work together for your wedding!  It is wonderful!  I personally prefer the plan of two shortened songs vs. a cut-in as I think it will be obvious to your guests that it was an intentional part of the plan vs. stirring up feelings of injustice for your dad and/or stepdad.

  • I am a bridesmaid in my cousin's wedding and she was debating the same thing. I love @ladyamanuet idea with the fade in and out so that the guest know this was an agreed upon idea by both fathers, but also keeps the spotlight dances to a shorter time frame.I'll be passing that idea along for sure!

I don't quite like the idea of one dad cutting in- I think it looks odd, as said, "I'm her REAL dad".

However, I think the fading out/in of songs that are a bit shorter is a lovely idea.
