Carpet Cleaners?

H and I want to wash our carpets but we don't know if we should just buy a $135 unit on Amazon with four stars or pay someone else to do it? Thoughts? Our carpets aren't in terrible shape and we're planning on putting in hard wood within a couple years.

Re: Carpet Cleaners?

  • I've heard good reviews about the Bissel vac that uses water for deep cleaning. IMO I would buy
My own unit so that it can be used over and over again. But for something like that I'd avoid buying it online in case I wanted to return it.
  • I know you mentioned you are putting in hard wood floors but I believe most deep cleaning vaca can be used for furniture as well... And there will always be area rugs!
  • I bought a Groupon to have someone come and clean my carpets after we move and before I list my house.  I think we'd both prefer hardwoods in the future so I don't know that we'd need to buy a machine.

  • I've always rented a carpet cleaner from the grocery store and done it myself.
  • We always rent a Rug Dr. from walmart and do it ourselves. It seems to work really well, I have always been satisfied. If you have a lot of stains or spots you need removed I might hire a pro.

  • I got a Bissell from Wal-Mart and love having it at my discretion! I have two very messy and fluffy cats, so it's nice to have it on hand to clean furniture and clean up after their messes (Vomit, etc you name it). I paid about maybe $150 or up, but less than $200 for sure.

  • Thanks everyone! Anyone know how much the rentals cost?
