FI and I decided to take a long weekend, so we took off tomorrow, Mon and Tues. I am so excited because I am drained from work. It is a busy time at work and things should die down a bit for me after today - perfect timing for our mini staycation :D

Tonight we are going to an off Broadway show "Tony & Tina's Wedding," which is essentially an interactive show, with the audience as "guests." We start out at one location for the "ceremony", then move across the street for the "reception." It sounds fun, so I'm excited :) For tomorrow I made reservations months ago for a restaurant uptown in Washington Heights, which is right on the river, so the views of the Hudson and the George Washington Bridge are amazing. I'm also thinking of going to the Cloisters (which is a park/museum) beforehand, because I have always loved it there. Sunday we have Brunch with my BFF and her boyfriend, Monday I set up a Mezcal/Margarita tasting, and Tuesday we are going to the Copacabana for FI's aunt's bday. So I'm excited for some fun!

Now, I just have to get through today. What's on the agenda for everyone, any weekend plans?

Re: Today is my Friday!

  • I wish I had that many days off!  I'm taking tomorrow off too since FI is finally home from deployment.  :)  We are going to look at used cars tomorrow for his son, then Saturday we're going to tour our potential venue and hopefully love it enough to book it!  Sunday we have Easter brunch at my aunt's.  He starts back up at "work" on Monday (it's hard for me to understand his regular Army life as "work" but everything military is still very new to me, lol).

    Enjoy your staycation!

  • Today is my Friday too!!!  I'm looking forward to the long weekend.  We are going house hunting again tonight and on Saturday.  We are ready to get back out there after the debacle with our first house.

  • Today is my Friday too!

Tonight we're driving up to Killington. Tomorrow we're skiing. Driving home Saturday. Then Easter dinner at my mom and dad's.
  • I move and graduate in a few weeks, so I'm working on job applications and packing. Not a very fun weekend, but it'll be productive.

  • So many of us with our Friday today :)
qmda76 - awesome news, that your FI is home from deployment!! Good luck with your venue :)
AprilH81 - Good luck with your hunting, I remember reading your other posts. I would imagine that house hunting is not an easy thing. If only it were as easy as it looks on House Hunters!
ClimbingBrideNY - Awesome, have fun skiing! I'm sad we didn't ski this season. I think next year I'm going to plan a trip to Monticello for a cabin/ski weekend. I think I was too depressed from the weather this winter to do anything fun.

  • Yay for long weekends! Today is my Friday, too! FI have our planning meeting with our venue tomorrow and then I think we may take a wedding-planning time out for the rest of the weekend. We need some us time. Maybe we will go hiking.

  • Today is my Thursday!

I am running a 5K on Saturday and then meeting a friend for brunch (french toast!).After brunch, I have to take my car in to get a new tire and the alternator fixed. On Sunday, I am going to the Easter service at my church and then probably lunch. I have had a busy week so I am looking to relaxing on Sunday afternoon.

  • @pinkcow13, you're going to love Tony and Tina's Wedding!
  • Today is also my Friday tongiht FI & I are going to my niece's b-day roller skating party. Tomorrow FI & I have to get our marriage license and I have to run our vases for the centerpieces to the florist.  The rest of the day I need to spend cleaning the house.

Saturday we have a few errands to run and we are going to try to plant a tree in our yard too.  Sunday we have to split up the day with both of our families for Easter.

  • I am so jealous! My weekend is a cluster!

I have a dinner tomorrow night with friends of the family that I'm really not excited about. I haven't seen them in years- and I'd love to catch up- but I'm going to feel guilty about not inviting them to the wedding. Also, I don't have the time to go.

I'm moving on Sunday! We've got 2 guys hired to help as well as FI and his brother. We've got a friend's box truck for the day and 90% of the apartment is boxes up. We're moving a bunch of my stuff into FI's house (we've been living together but never really moved my stuff out...) and the rest into storage for the time being. I was hoping to clean it and hand back the keys the same day but reality says that won't happen...

Laundromat. We discovered last night that FI's son has been hiding forbidden foods/wrappers in his closet, bringing us mice. Because he's a filthy beast (he's 15), everything is on his closet floor and now covered in mouse shit. We found it when a mouse (and more mouse shit) ended up in our room through the connected closets. We now have too much laundry to manage at the house so a major laundromat run is in order. I've calmed FI down enough to talk calmly about appropriate punishments but things are going to be ugly at home this weekend.

Grocery shopping, a new muffler for FI's car (we can't put it off), and more cleaning of the house to make room for my stuff.

    Dreading this weekend!

*For the record, I'm not a total ogre about my stepson. He's got serious eating issues that are causing problems. He's gained enough weight to be teased at school (we got the call from his teacher) and is pre-diabetic. Both of his parents are diabetic but they were diagnosed in their late 20s (both have family histories) and for an undisciplined kid in his teens, this could prove catastrophic. We've gotten him a nutritionist and a counselor but the discovery means that he's been lying to us. Plus, we haven't figured out how he managed to afford what looks like over $100 in junk food. Also, the mouse shit in my stuff just pisses me off.

  • Today is NOT my Friday. I will be sitting in my cubicle tomorrow trying not to think about food (I fast on Good Friday). We have an appointment to look at wedding rings and one to taste cake on Saturday (neither of which I am excited for in the least). Sunday is Easter so getting up at the asscrack of dawn to go to church with FI's family, before rushing home to make lunch for my family. Basically, a shitty weekend that I would prefer to not be involved in.

  • I have to work tomorrow buuuut I work where the Boston marathon starts so I have Monday off since all the roads are shut down. I don't have any family in the area and FI doesn't like the family he does have, so we're spending Easter at my maid of honor's house. Her and her parents are from Greece so they do Greek Easter with whole lambs roasting on a fire- it's amazing!! Monday she and I are going to watch and cheer for the marathon.

I'm super excited for it! It definitely sounds like it will be a good time! I'm trying to be as productive as I can today (with some TK breaks to keep my sanity), so that I can make it out on time to at least change before the show.
netskyblue2 - Ahhhhh, congrats!!!!!! Have a wonderful wedding! That's definitely a good Friday! (Ha, no pun intended).
wandajune6 - that sounds terrible! Maybe he's getting all the junk food at school? Idk if things have changed, but I feel that junk food was available everywhere when I was in school. It sucks because unfortunately you can't watch him 24/7 to make sure he stays no the healthy track, annnd he's a teenager. I feel like lying to parents comes with the territory at that age.
Cookie Pusher - that sounds crappy. You need lots of Mead and wine to get through this weekend!

I would love to attend a Greek Easter. My BFF's (Also MOH!) aunt hosts Greek Easter because her husband is Greek, but she is not spending it at her Aunt's this year. I would love to attend, though. My coworker (he is Greek) goes to his grandparents house, and he tells me how they roast the lamb in their backyard - sounds amazing! Since I am off on Monday, I'm going to search for the Marathon on TV to watch it.

We know he buys endless fries and cookies at school but the cafeteria doesn't sell all of the packaged stuff. We're also puzzling over how he has the money to pay for it- he lost his allowance for not doing chores and his mom claims not to be giving him money.

  • Hmmm. You think maybe his mom is lying about not giving him money? It's pretty puzzling how a 15 year old can get money unless someone is giving it to him, or he has a part time job. I'm not trying to be a negative nancy here, but do you think there is a chance he may be stealing it from somewhere too? I had a friend who used to regularly steal from CVS when we were around that age, and that is how she always had so much lip gloss and perfume (that pink blush or black and white perfume CVS used to sell).

  • I know! My theory is that his mom is giving him lunch money again. We asked her to stop because she was doing it inconsistently and not telling us- then he'd pack a lunch and buy a bunch of crap to go with. The kid tries to play everyone- he tells his mom that we don't keep food in the house and that we won't give him lunch money and tells us that his mom won't give him money so we need to (he hates packing). We used to give him lunch money but he can't manage it over a week (it lasts 1-2 days) and giving him money daily never really worked out. The result was that we made him pack a lunch. I thought we had it figured out but now I'm not sure. High school is so much harder than JH was- back then, you got the school lunch or nothing!

I don't think he's the type to steal but if he did, it would be from out of my purse (I'm messy with throwing change in my bag) or his dad's change bin, not strangers or a store. Plus, he doesn't have enough unsupervised time to do that much.

His parents are going to be discussing it today. We'll see!

Thanks!! This was my first season skiing!! I loved it. I'd only ever been snowboarding at Mountain Creek.
  • wandajune6 - Hmm yea it sounds then like it is his mom giving him the money, then. Hopefully when they discuss this later, she will see that all she is doing is more harm than good. Good luck, I hope it works out!

  • Greek Easter is soooo good. Every time I go to her house even just for normal dinner they have like a 5 lb block of feta cheese that I devour. Always with the salad with homemade lemon and olive oil dressing, lamb, pork, REAL Greek yogurt that they hand make. Its nothing like the stuff sold in a tub its so thick and tart and I can't enough of it!!
