The way some people process or justify things amazes me sometimes.

DH and I went out last night and decide to take the bus so we both can have some drinks.   We started talking to this woman who warned us that the bus drivers are required by law to report any drunk person who get off at one of the park and rides and gets in a car.   I'm thinking "ooookkkkaaaayyy, thanks for the warning?"

Apparently, she found out the hard way when she drove to a park and ride and took the bus to another town for a night of drinking.    At the end of the night she was dropped off at the park and ride and then arrested for trying to drive.    She was dead serious that she thought she was being responsible by taking the bus 20 miles and then driving home the last 3.   She keeps saying "who knew you could get a DUI so close to home?"

Of course  I thinking "how could you not know that?"   It's scary there are people like that in the world.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

  • I don't have any respect or tolerance for people who drink and drive, period. I'm not talking about those who have 1 or 2. You know when you are intoxicated and shouldn't drive. I don't know if there's anything else that's more selfish.

    Serves her right.

I forgot I was the designated driver last night, since we don't have a car and I drive so infrequently. But we rented a Zipcar to get to my family's seder, and I'd had half a glass of wine (1st two cups of wine during the seder) and realized I should stick to just the one glass. Normally, when I'm the designated driver, I have zero alcohol. Not even the one glass. I know that it's usually safe for most people to drive after one drink, but I don't want to take the chance that I'm not most people, and the case isn't a usual one, you know?

It's astounding that that person actually doesn't get that it's not that you're not supposed to drive LONG DISTANCES while intoxicated!

  • That makes me so mad.

In college, I had a friend that always admitted to drinking and driving.  He told me his cousin died that way, but he still does it anyway.  WTF????

Not only should not be endangering yourself like that, but what about others?  Absolutely mind boggling.

And I'm willing to bet that a large percentage of drunk driving accidents happen when the driver was "just a few miles from home".

  • That's like thinking you can't get in an accident or mugged or murdered so close to home. Like there's a distance factor for bad things to happen to you?
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • ...so, it was the bus driver's fault for reporting her, and not her fault for trying to drive while drunk.  Right.

  • I don't normally wish harm on other people, but anyone who drinks and drives needs to run themselves into a tree so they stop endangering everyone else.
