NWR: Oy Vey, what a weekend!

Last Monday my husband received a call from his aunt asking for her and her pregnant daughter to stay Thursday through Sunday at our house. She lives 5 hours away and came to visit primarily to find a wedding dress for her granddaughter. Her son and DIL have 4 children. She usually stays at a hotel, but since we moved here in the last year, she asked to stay with us. My husband called me and asked what I thought and I said it was fine...how could I say no without her being offended? We had no plans so there wasn't a reason to say no. Oh how I wish I had.

This is the aunt who did not come to our wedding because her daughter's children were not invited and had written me a nasty RSVP. I recently met her for the first time at my husband's gma's funeral. She has 2 daughters. The one staying is not the one who wrote the RSVP.

This woman NEVER shuts up. This morning we were on the deck chatting for 4 hours...well, I was listening for 4 hours, She is a nice woman and so is her daughter, but I am ready for them to leave. Luckily they have been spending most of their time with her grand kids and had been eating mostly with them.

Last night she invited us to dinner, we assumed as a thank you for letting them stay and saved her hundreds in a hotel bill. (She is retired and has plenty of money, in fact she just received nearly a quarter of a million from gma's estate.) Nope! We paid for dinner! It was so awkward when the waiter asked how it should be divided.

She invited us to Easter brunch at a restaurant, but now we know better and it's not in our budget. (I was recently offered a job after a year of being unemployed so hubby took me out to eat earlier this month to celebrate and that took our monthy "fun" money.

I'm just at my wits end having to sit and listen to her go on and on and pretend to be interested. Her granddaughter is getting married next month and she told her son and DIL from Alabama that they could stay at our house! Without even asking us!!!!! This will not happen again. It's my fault for saying yes.

  • Thats just awful! I can't believe she had the nerve to write a nasty rsvp....among other things she's got the nerve to do!

  • Oh man, that sucks! Also, what is with people who just think they can volunteer someone else's house as lodging for people?! Who does that?!

Add some Bailey's to your coffee.

Oh my. Baileys indeed! You might want to have a second cup of your morning brew ;).

Inviting other people to stay at your house is so rude. That would very much irk me.
