Wedding this weekend...

Joining TK boards have been a real eye opening experience and sometimes I wish I didn't know as much as I know now because every wedding I go to there is something that irritates me now! lol

We have a family wedding this weekend. The engagement has been about 20 months and we have had a FB status from the bride almost weekly the entire engagement, the last few months its almost daily! The bride is a sweet girl and I am very happy for her, but I have already heard a few things that I am less then thrilled about....

A Gap: Ceremony is at 2, and is about 30 minutes long which brings us to 2:30. I have been told no receiving line. And cocktail hr starts at 4 about 10 minutes away. The hr+ gap is for WP to take pictures and still make cocktail hour. What the heck am I going to do in that time?!?! Hubs and his siblings are all IN the WP. I will be hanging with MIL and FIL, which is fine.... but still not thrilled.

Cash Bar: I have stated before that a cash bar is pretty standard in my area so I tend not get worked up over this. But most have at least hosted wine or SOMETHING. This is 100% cash (I heard soda too.....)

No Kids: She has kids in the WP but they have to leave before the reception. This one doesn't affect me at all but my poor niece is being asked to leave.

Tuxes: As I mentioned Hubs is in the WP. He got fitted for his tux a few months ago at this mom & pop tux store. The problem is, he is supposed to pick his tux up by Weds, it's not in YET and we live an hr+ from this place. We work full time and he doesn't get home till almost 8 most nights... it's annoying the groom texts him last night stating this. I hope they know he will be picking it up Friday when he goes up for the rehearsal... (this one may not be against etiquette but frustrating that they made it a pain to the WP and didn't pick a more accessible tux location)

If I had gone to this wedding last year.... wouldn't have thought twice about most of this!!! Hopefully the rest of it goes well and either way hubs and I plan on having a good time (and bringing lots of cash for the bar)!

Yeah, it's really terrible for the niece. That's a cruel thing to do to a kid in the wedding party.

The worst part is treating the children like props. If you don't want children at your reception, you don't get to have them in the ceremony.

This wedding sounds horrible. I'm relatively lenient on the cash bar business, but there are levels, and this is the worst. I'm still annoyed I had to pay for a cranberry juice at a baby shower, like 4 years ago. The fact that non alcoholic drinks are not hosted is pure crap. There really is no excuse for that.

Why do you have to pick up the tux on Wednesday? Is the wedding Friday or Saturday? There should be no problem with you picking it up on Friday if the wedding is on Saturday. This is why we used Men's Warehouse, there is a location everywhere.

laurynm84 wedding is Sat. They want it pick up by Wednesday so they can ship it back out if something doesn't fit. There is no way around not getting it on Friday, it is the first chance we will have so it will have to work. Hubby has worn a tux every year for the past few years for weddings and have yet to have an issue [knock on wood]. They used this small family owned business so we could get a better deal I guess.... and its like $170 for the tux!!! We did Men's Wearhouse as well so it was convenient for our WP, even if they did get us a savings (which they didn't) sometimes convenience is worth a little extra money...

It may be worth it for your husband to just buy a tux. My brother got a nice Calvin Klein one on sale at Macy's for $215 total.

I see... My FI will be having only one attendant, and since FI is just wearing a "normal" black tux, his groomsman gets to recycle the basic black tux he got for his own wedding. We are not doing colored vests or anything (I think those are icky).

I feel the same way now that I've come on this site.....FI was watching Duck Dynasty the other night and apparently the parents of the 4 men got married at the JP 48 years ago. So all the wives decided it would be such a great idea to throw them a surprise "wedding" since the MIL never got her dream wedding. They set it up all elaborate with arbor, cake, decorations and everything. A few months ago I wouldn't have batted an eyelash at this but now I'm sitting there watching getting all huffy like "Why do they keep calling it a wedding?! It's a vow renewal!" At the end of the day it was a really sweet gesture that you could tell made them SO happy (and didn't inconvenience anyone else) so I guess that's all that matters lol

Update - Hubby had to pay for his tux over the phone today and someone else will pick up the tux for him and he can get it Friday at the rehearsal. The place was pretty rude to him about it too. And the grand total was a whopping $170…. I'm sorry but that seems really high to me (he was not asked his budget ahead of time obv).

Also - the daily FB updates have been a roller coaster of emotions so hopefully it all comes together for the bride. Today we got a "sneak peak" of what I assume is decorations and I most definitely saw mason jars…...

When are brides going to learn that the entire point of a cocktail hour is to give your guests a chance to have a snack and mingle before you show up and start the official reception? It's not for the B&G. When the B&G show up, it's time to eat dinner.

Selfish selfish selfish.

I have to laugh a little inside every time someone asks us how the planning is going - like it's some all-consuming thing. I spend more time dicking around on TK than actually planning anything.

It's like - hey, we got a place, a chair, a meal, as many beverages as you can responsibly drink, a dj - we're ready to go when you are.

Also, every groomsman's partner has been totally mystified by "any grey suit" as the uniform for the GMs. "Yeah, but what color grey? What if it doesn't match/is the same as the groom's/is not the same as the groom's/etc???" ANY GREY SUIT. LITERALLY ANY COLOR OF GREY. The world will not stop turning people.

Meh, that seems pretty standard to me. Mens Warehouse tuxes usually run around $150-$170 for the nice, mid range, non designer tuxes.

Yea I think for our groomsmen they paid $120-$130 and there was one close to everyone. B&G picked this speciality shop to get us a "deal" even though it was located an hour + for half the wedding party. So its just frustrating that they justified this store with the price when it wasn't a deal at all.
