  You're not supposed to host your own engagement party.
  But I would have the host use paper invites.

  An engagment party is like a shower or bachelorette.  It's a party thrown in your honor but not by you.

  And personally, I would rather host and incure the costs myself, than have other people pay for it. Especially since we are having a destination wedding, and I think our guests and bridal party are having to pay for enough as it is.

  TK doesn't necessarily follow appropriate etiquette.
  
  It isn't considered appropriate to throw any party in honor of yourself.

  My parents are actually throwing the party but I'm helping with the planning and I'm in charge of the invites (because they will be traveling when they need to go out).  We are going to go with paper though.

  My parents hosted as well, but I helped with the planning and decor as that's my "role" within the family.    I also sent both.  Evites to my friends and family members that I already communicate with on-line and then paper invitations to some of the senior people or in instances where there were multiple adults guests in the household.
