Worst reason for PPD I have ever seen.

From elsewhere on the internet:

"We're getting legally married on August 6th (because it's Lucille Ball's birthday, and she's my hero)."

Then they are having their "actual wedding" on August 10th.  WTH.

Re: Worst reason for PPD I have ever seen.

  • Well, August 6th is a fabulous day because it is my birthday!!!

But, that is really stupid. Why not have the "actual wedding" on the 6th?

Because most people don't want to get married on a Wednesday, and August 6th is on a Wednesday in 2014, and a Thursday in 2015. They'd have to wait until 2016 to get married on a weekend AND the 6th.

Not an excuse to have a PPD, but an excuse to not have your wedding on the 6th this year. At least they're being upfront about it?

ZOMG August 10th is MY birthday!  See, the universe wants them to have a PPD because of us.

    They are being stupid.

  • Ooh now I'm excited that my birthday is on a Saturday this year and I don't have to work!

  • @inkdancer, that's an awesome office policy!
  • @lnkdancer that is amazing. I'm a teacher and on my birthday my students ask "what did you bring us?!"

  • At least they are honest.

But why can't they just have a party celebrating their marriage and just skip the whole reenactment?

I worked for a company that your birthday was a holiday.  It was great (although I generally took that day months later).    In lieu of getting your birthday, they eliminated President' day. Which worked out well because President's day was a very busy week from us and you would not get the day off anyway.

August 10th is my anniversary. The anniversary of my DW AND my legal marriage in a foreign country!
    SHUT THE HELL UP.

It's not possible to have a DW in a foreign country that is legal.  Nope, not possible.

    Sarcasm?

Yes.    There are plenty of brides who claim the can't get married legally in a foreign country.     Jells is awesome at explaining that simply is not true.  It might take more effort, but you can indeed legally get married in another country.

  • Sorry, I meant that having your actual wedding on a Wednesday is an enormous pain in the butt because very few people would be able to go.

It's stupid for sure, but not wanting the wedding and reception on a Wednesday is completely valid. They either need to abandon the date idea or accept that almost no one would attend on a Wednesday.

But they ARE having their actual wedding on a Wednesday. That's our point.

I think you mean nobody wants to have a reception on a Wednesday, but a reception does not make it a "wedding". Your wedding is when you get married.
  • Sorry, haha. I've never been to a church wedding (that I was old enough to really remember) and all the ones I've attended, everything is done in the same spot.So I associate the two events as one.

Of course they should have the reception the same day as their ceremony. If they do these events on the 6th, few people will go.
  • There is only one reason to ever have a PPD.  It is called ME!  ME!  ME! IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!

    Thanks @lyndausvi!

The most difficult thing about meeting the legal requirements in Australia was the divorce decrees. Obviously, if you have never been married before, it's quite a bit easier. But, for whatever reason, when you get divorced in Arizona, you only get a copy of your final divorce decree. So, we both had to go to the courthouse and get certified copies. Since the decrees can be a bit thick, it was a little expensive (maybe $50 for both?) to get the copies. Otherwise, I had to provide the same information that is required for a legal wedding in the US, but had to mail it to Australia.

Complaining about the complications of a DW is ridiculous, IMHO. If something is too difficult, just don't get married there! I had my absolute dream beach destination wedding with such minimal fuss. There are so many great destinations out there that have somewhat laid back residency requirements- Fiji, Cook Islands, Dominican Republic, etc. It doesn't have be Mexico.

  • Very interesting. My grandparents were married on August 6, and my grandmother loves Lucille Ball. I think it's just coincidental, but I'll have to ask her.
