What are you doing about TRANSPORTATION?

Ugh -- I'm in a minor state of panic just thinking about TRANSPORTATION for everyone.  We probably have 80 out-of-town guests, for our wedding of 160.

Our ceremony and reception are about a 25 minute drive from one another, and although mass transportation is something that I've looked into and have quotes on (i.e. school busses, shuttles), it is making me CRAZY.  It is an expense that I really can't afford, but I want everyone to have fun and not stress about drinking.

What do I do?  Then -- if I decide NOT to do mass transport for our guests, what do people usually do with the wedding party after we (bride and groom) have left the reception?

Re: What are you doing about TRANSPORTATION?

  • The experience I've had, the dates of the WP drove them back to wherever they were going after the wedding.

  • I am doing nothing for transportation. Everyone is old enough to know how to handle themselves around alcohol when they have to drive home.

  • We are doing from hotel to church to reception then to church or hotel. Church will let guests stay parked there free, restaurant has very limited parking that's free. Thus, transportation. For us, it's cheaper than paying for parking.

However, if it's nice, it's two blocks so some may opt to walk instead.
  • 1. From your post, it seems like your concerned with transportation between ceremony and reception. Are you planning to provide transportation for your entire event (pick guests up at hotel, transfer them between sites, then drive them back home?) or just between the two locations?

    2. Ultimately, if transportation does not fit into your budget, then don't do it. As PP's have said, guests will be able to take care of themselves.

  • It's up to your guests to get themselves to the wedding, to the reception, and back home/to the hotel without getting a DUI. As for the wedding party either they drive themselves from the wedding to the reception or you transport them to the reception and their date gets them home/to the hotel. If you are really worried about people drinking and driving have some cards for a local cab company at the bar.
