Strapless & small chest- afraid of nip slip!

Hi everyone,

I have three weeks left until my wedding- and have already had three fitting appointments. However I am still concerned that when I lift my arms over my head (slowly, not even fast like being spun while dancing!) half of my SMALL chest feels like it is coming right out of the top.

The cups of the dress are too big for me, and although she sewed foam cups into the dress and has taken it in on the sides- I still feel in danger of a nip slip. It seems to fit at the waist, has the extra internal waist band, and she added boning on the side, so from what I’ve read it seems like the structure is all there. However the dress is slightly heavy and the strapless top does not move with my chest when I lift my arms. Any suggestions are appreciated!

  • How much do you plan on lifting your arms over your head?
Sorry, no better solutions than keep your arms down. Typically the structure of dresses like that is intended to keep the from falling down, not to allow them to go up when your arms do. Maybe some stickies just in case?

  • Well, I will be doing a few spins during our first dance, and I don't want to be self conscious trying to remember not to lift my arms up if the urge strikes when we walk back down the aisle, for example...

So overall, not a lot.  But the times I will/might are moments when there will be many onlookers.
  • And by stickies- do you mean something like a Nu-bra?  I've seen that recommended on a few sites.

Either that or just little sticky nipple covers... Nipplomat is one brand. Just flesh toned, round, kinda like pasties but without the tassels. ;) just enough coverage that if there is a slip, there's nothing to see and people may not even notice.

  • Alright!  Will be trying the stickies at my next appointment and having someone spin me around...!
  • Try some fashion tape. I usually use it when I wear anything strapless.
  • I would say double sided tape would work well in this case.

I am thinking the same thing for my dress.  Since losing weight I have lost almost a cup size and i a worried that I won't be able to hold up my dress.  Fingers crossed when I go to my fitting this isn't the case :P

  • I was thinking about fashion tape, too. :) They usually sell some at Walmart (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Hollywood-Fashion-Tape-Clear-Double-Stick-Strips-18-count/23591468 and others), and they're very affordable!
  • If your dress is fitted properly (and it sounds like it is) then you should be okay. I am small busted too and my gown was on the heavier side. You're right; the internal waist thing and the boning is what holds up the dress. On my wedding day I was amazed that I didn't hike up my gown, not once. Definitely spin around at your next fitting, sit down on a chair, stand up, etc. I bet you're just focusing on it now and on your wedding day it will be fine. Good luck!

Double-sided carpet tape is your best friend, girl. Put a thin strip on the inside of the top of your dress and you'll be golden.

  • I hate this feeling- I usually just don't wear dresses that are loose that I can't wear a bra with. The nu-bra sticky bra type things definitely help but it's not really a great bra replacement. If you're getting support from the dress, it should provide enough coverage for peace of mind. Since you can place the sticky cups where you want, you can probably get it so it doesn't show above the dress.
